Iray Rendering Slows Network Connection

I've been encountering a strange problem recently. Everytime I start a render (IRay) my internet speed slows way down or stops all together. Once rendering is complete or I cancel the render, the connection goes back to normal. Normal operation of DazStudio doesn't have this effect. I was wondering if this a problem others have encountered?

Are you rendering on CPU? If not that shouldn't be happening.

Rendering on GPU, and I agree it should not be happening

It seems unlikely, but could it be that there is enough disc activity (or even memory activity) to keep your security software so busy that it isn't processing Internet packets, causing a lag or drop out? What security software are you using?

I've been using Kaspersky for awhile now with no problems. I did recently install VPN software (required to work from home).

@Akyda81 "I did recently install VPN software (required to work from home). "

Bet that's it. Corporate software on home machine invariably doesn't play nice.

I agree, and I would remove it if I could. To bad I have no choice in the matter.

  • Could you do a dual boot set up (assuming Windows 10) side by side so that you had one for work, one fo everything else? you'd need a drive big enough for two versions of windows (don't need two copies of the software) in two different partitions if i remember correctly.

Can you turn off the VPN when you aren't doing work work? I have to use Global Protect but keep it off when I'm not actually connected and active.

Could be a conflict between Kaspersky and the VPN. I'd disable one, or both, and see what happens. Personally my money is on the AV. Kaspersky is perhaps the most infamously bad AV in existense.

Windows Defender is a perfectly adequate AV and is what most software tests against now a days so if Kaspersky is the problem you canjust uninstall it and run Defender instead.
