DazStudio CMS will not connect no matter what (Mac)

So I've been trying to set up DazStudio for the last few hours, but the CMS seems to have trouble connecting. I've never installed Daz on my computer before today, and I've tried every solution on here from changing permissions, running in root, trying to change the port (keeps switching back), deleting the cluster folder, reinstalling everything, restarting in safe mode/resetting NVRAM etc. Still, every time I get the message on startup:
"A valid PostgreSQL could not be established".
it's incredibly frustrating. For reference, I'm on a Macbook Pro 2017 updated to the latest version of MacOS Catalina, 10.15.4. If anyone has suggestions I will gladly take them.
