Newest update: DO NOT INSTALL IT!
After installing the newest update, I went to start up DAZ Studio and I got a white screen with a few items on it from my smart props to the left and the main document in the middle. I loaded a figure, and was unable to render it (an error message would pop up). So I decided to reinstall DAZ Studio 4.12 and the install would never finish, so I decided to install from the install manager, and it installed but once I tried to open it I got an error message (see attachment) I also noticed ALL the files that I had been working on for the past month were gone- I absolutley could not find then under any category!
So, if you haven't installed any updates from the install manager today, I highly recommend you DO NOT INSTALL IT!
if you've gotten the same message and have fogured out how to fix it please share
I'm so frustrated. :(

? maybe try manually reinstalling the PostgreSQL. {can be accessed in our Product Library}
Tried it, still getting the error message.
Hope you kept backup installers.
that's what I tried to install from
What ever those updates did, they screwed things up REAL good!
Backup installers would be on your own harddrives, not in our Product Library anymore ;-)
Ok, I was able to get an earlier version to install and work properly.
But Daz 3D needs to fix this newest version.
There isn't anything wrong with it, I have it installed here. What that message means is that the CMS can't find an internal port usually because the antivirus software or the firewall is blocking it. Check the port number in the old version and see if it matches the one in the new version.
Find it under Preferences/CMS Settings also see if the Cluster Directory is the same. Another thing to check is that both versions are being installed in the same place.
Oh, there's stuff wrong with it. 4.12.1.115 nuked my 4.11 installation without warning, and it wasn't until I restarted my computer that Daz would install either 4.12.1.115 or 4.12.1.117 properly. Not Daz's finest hour.
I suspect that DS was running (possibly shutting down in the background) when you installed the new version - the white interface certainly sounds like that. In any event this is not the usual experience so telling people not to install is an over-reaction, however frustrated you may be.
I've upgraded through them all, except the .117 as I haven't got around to that yet, but I am running the .117 Beta and have been doing most of my work on it for the past few days. The only problem I have ever had was the CMS not connecting on one of the previous updates, around 4.11 I think, it took about two weeks to track down the problem, then I moved to a new computer and had to track it all down again. I'm still not sure how I eventually got it working as I tried that many things. That wasn't a DAZ issue though that was a combination of antivirus, firewall and windows, and me
Funny thing I was trying to install something else and the Daz update 4.12 took over and installed without me asking it to, I let it run and it tried to install the PostgreSQL, but that failed to download, anyways I started Daz3d backup and all seemed to work fine, even the original item I wanted to install. Hope all works tomorrow.
Should be able to determine that sooner by rebooting the computer.
I had the same problem with the 4.12.1.117 Beta. I installed it 2 days ago and everything was fine. Today was another update and it corrupted the installation.
To me it seems that a bad installer had been distributed today (at least for a while). In the meantime this seems to be fixed.
Try the following:
- Start DIM and uninstall DS (if not already done).
- Stop DIM and delete the installer (zip) from your DIM folder.
- Start DIM again. DS should should now appear for download again.
- Download it with DIM and install.
Hope this helps. For me it worked.
I have noticed that with recent DAZ Studio versions (4.12.XXXX), the program often does not shut down properly, or takes several minutes to do so (no, it's not because my machine is slow: i7, SSD, 32GB DDR4, twin 1080 cards etc). Clearly, DS sometimes has problems shutting down. Sometimes doing EndTask in the Windows Task Manager is required. Are the devs working on this or is this another of the "low priority" bugs that keeps getting put to the bottom of the list and might get solved somewhere over the rainbow?
DS potentially does a lot of tidying up in the background as it closes, depending on the content that was loaded in the current scene (even deleted content may still be on the undo stack). Try to let it finish up on its own (if you have Task Manager open then look to see if the memory load is dropping and a CPU core is working flat out).
If you use third-party plug-ns you might try disabling those - a user in another thread just reproted that Octane was causing a slow shut down for them. There is a sample script that can be used for this http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/plugins/plugins_load_config/start
I'm still on 4.9, but I create a new scene before closing DS. After that, the program closes in 2-3 seconds. Don't know if this works with the newer builds?
Starting a new scene clears the data, including the undo stack. However the total tiem taken should eb roughly the same, as far as I understand it - at least as far as core DS is concerned.
For me, it seems to be more efficient than simply quitting. Especially after working with complex scenes.
Daz isn't doing anything. I've had it running for at least 15 minutes after shutdown. It's gotten bad since 4.12.
I have experienced this same issue. It worked fine for over a week, and then when I restarted today, I got the terrifying white screen. After many restarts with the same effect, I decided to delete it and re-download. Now daz will not allow me to re-download it. No matter how many times I change my password. can I still download the previous version?
I have just got around to updating the full version, I have been using the .086 version and the new beta, and finished a render with it. I always clear the scene by clicking on the new render button then I shut down Studio and it shut down instantly, nothing running in the Task Manager.
Try 2-3 minutes for me, I end up having to kill the process!
Of course DS needs to close down and tidy up, but in recent versions that sometimes seems to take much longer than normal. A few seconds is no problem, but if a program takes minutes to close down when previous versions took seconds, then this indicates a problem. The situation is made worse by the fact that there is no indication that a close down process is going on. You have to go in to the Task Manager to see that DS is still active (or stuck). If these long shutdown times are actually necessary and ligitimate, then would DAZ3d please add a shutdown progress bar to DS which does not reach 100% until all shutdown tasks are complete. Then at least we will know what is going on and perhaps specific problems could be identified more easily.
Maybe I'm lucky, but I've got it up and running with no issues. Hope you guys get resolution quickly!
Only issue I've had was during install, my AV decided to do a software update at the same time, and tried to force a restart while DS was still installing
I have started to look more closely at this and whilst the memory load initially starts to drop, it often then stalls remaining at about the same level for quite some time and even increasing very slightly.
