Splitting a phone in 2 Parts

LoonyLoony Posts: 1,817

Hi,

I wanna split a Phone into 2 Parts, so I can give somehow maybe, my Char the phone in the hand (hell, why are the phones never made to be grabable...)

I am able to hide the cable+phone:

But... when I duplicate (first) the item and do that, the geo editor does change this hiding on both items :(

So... how can I now split it into 2 Items?

Edit:

I did hdie everything, and let only the phone+cable visible and exported it as .obj and did reimport it (I think I saw that somewhere).

So this is the result:

now comes the hard part... can I rig the cable ... I did never rig so I dont think so >_< (that I can do it)

Update, when i press accept, nothing happens :(

Edit: i had already a hip bone and clicked it and now it worked :D

Update:

I have No idea if I made it correct... all without any tutorial xD

I can't move the cable :(.... when I select the bones in my scene, I move a box...

What... did I forget?

  • Have you weight mapped the bones? Assumign this is a weight mapped figur that step is vital - it tells DS how much each bend affects the mesh.

well no, cuz... I didnt knowed that rigging needs a weight map :o

Like I said I made it without any tutorial :D

If I select the weight brush.

What kidn of weightmap do I have to use? I used so far only the dforce weight maps.

I checked the Edit->Figure and I can convert it to a weight map, but... do I not lose then the rigs?

Clicked there and... uhm... my prop is gone ;(....

I delete it now and let my char use the phone via "speakerphone" (google translator say thats the verb). Even if I think its a bit... hard to understand in a still image :/

  • Using 'speakerphone' sounds good ;-)

Which set did that phone come from?

    No idea now :P

I found in my lib that this set have a Phone in the hand Prop. (sadly its static, so I can not move the phone, just the char to the phone)

    https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/stz-office-life/141683/

    Had 3 Phone presets.

Edit: The Phone I used was from FG Library.

Good point, you can color the red light (and set a emission) bad part, the complete buttons dont have numbers or anything... looks bad^^. And you cant take down the phone.

I have that phone, you can add a dformer centered on the hanset that will allow a fair ammount of movement before distoting things too much. That might help with small changes in posing.

Hmmm I dont use much Dformer, the only thing I thinked about was, to use Meshgrabber and then try to move it, but the cable would maybe stretch weird, but if you check my Scene shot, you see, I managed it pretty good :)

Yes you managed pretty good, also the promos gave an idea for making use of part of the phone with the main base out of view. The suggested posable phone while it appears to be old-fashioned, actually is rather popular {along with other old models} as collector's items for decorating purposes too. If one has done their rec room up to have a certain theme for example, one would want everything to fit in - including their phones.

And no I don't happen to own any of the sets you've mentioned so cannot help you out with morphs.

    Yeah no Problem :)

Maybe I found one day a modern Phone which have a moveable phone with rigged cable.

I am always amazed at the number of products that should be rigged but are static. :\

If you are still interested in rigging the cord, here is a tutorial about how to set up a series of bones. It is for a staff, but the idea was to make it flexible, like your phone cord.

"a bit"? xD I dont see that phone anywhere :D In the 90's had my aunt such a phone and she was with that already special, no one had such a phone in the 90's (no normal people). Because it was annoying^^.

Thanks NorthOf45, looks long the tutorial... seems like it is a lot work to rigg something :(

The wireless Phone is not bad, thats normal today, that you can undock your phone.

Well I'm so sorry obviously me and people I knew were quite so fasional as you and yours I had one in the 90's and so did a lot of other people I knew. I've even seen them in some homes more recently.

I'll stop trying to help in future.

little update to those who are interested:

    https://www.daz3d.com/single-office-home-office

That set contains a wireless phone with a station, with the geoeditor its possible to split it in 2 parts :)

I just duplicated it and deleted one time the station and one time the phone and now I can use them standalone :)
