Anyone have a good recipe to make a volumetric flame shader?

I am making some stuff, with flame geometry, anyone know of a good way to shade something like that?

  • Use some yellow and some red.

Seriously though, it depends how it's done, a simple answer is use something like this https://www.deviantart.com/astuceman/art/Fire-Daz-Shader-for-Iray-572800816

The complicated answer is to use shells, split the gemometry by colour/emmisive and distance from point of ignition, complicated stuff to do.

  • Nice picture there.
    Download is over here: https://github.com/Astuceman/Daz-Iray-Shaders-and-Lights
One does not have to sign up or up, Select Download {green button}, I had to use "E" to jump all the hoops to get there. {not Firefox} zip is 933mb.

    Nice find, thank you :-)

Thanks, will take that stuff apart, see if I can't use the idea. If all else fails, maybe will just make some lanterns with opaque glass or something, who knows lol.

I've seen SSS and a point light put to good effect on a closed volume, with a geoshell to mute the intensity. The light fades a bit as it penetrates the volume, but is still bright from outside.
