How's this for free

Got this collection of 8 freebie, HDRIs of open water. Different lighting but all calm water.

I was able to use it to make this render with nothing but freebies. Please see my gallery for details.

    Sounds pretty good :)

They are nice moody HDRI's but they're pretty low res. I wouldn't use them without DOF.

    What's DOF?

Depth of field. You have a focal point (point of aim) for your camera and a focal depth where everything is sharp. Anything further in the background or closer in the foreground tends to be fuzzy.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_of_field

    It shows also examples.

Racing games loves to use it, to simulate the Speed, you are so fast that you can't see the world.

Also Similar "blur", Blur and DOF working pretty similar, they try to give a focus on a thing.

I for myself, can say I dont like it, I wanna see all clean, so i can look at details.

Thats a big Favorite from a nice Artist, would he use DOF, could you not see all the details overall :) (he does really know how to make VERY Big people scenes... I still dont get it HOW^^)

I just DL'd it, (it's still available), thank you!

But, now where do I put it to get it to work?  Can anyone give an example instruction containing directories and where to put what please.

    e.g. such as My Library C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\Presets\

    Thank you

You can put hdr files anywhere you like, I tend to keep mine in a convenient folder in the Daz3D collection, not in My Library. They can be loaded via browse options for images in the Render Settings Pane, draw Dome turned on.

Ah ha, I see, success, thank you!

Everything in my DAZ is default so far - so my environment maps are here: C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\shaders\iray\resources   and I created a MyHDRs directory there.

=>Just went to the URL provided below to collect some GREAT FREE HDRs - tested them - putting them into MyHDRs directory, as you said, and - it worked! - (SEE ATTACHED PIC)

    NEW FREE HDRs: http://noemotionhdrs.net/hdrother.html ;

    ( no malware - https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/33ed6799073b3f0586ea092bd4787c55f565b76803f4481327762bf7f6e9f132/detection   )

=>That's one less learning issue, (a million to go).

RENDERING: Here's the catch, I'm usually only taking screen captures until I learn more about rendering ... Basically, I haven’t been using Iray, because things don't look right, figures are washed out, and worst of all is the black eye issue.

=>e.g. For a G8F I attempted to utilize "Claudina's" eyes and also I attempted to use the Project EYEray eyes, and my characters all have black rings in their eyes (SEE ATTACHED IMAGE these rendered eyes should be green, not black). In the case of Claudina, it feels like it could be a user error, or computer hardware problem (I have Intel GPU, I don’t have a NVIDIA GPU). In the case of Project EYEray but could be a product problem,(unknown), I’ll have to research the issue further.

    Thank you!

    You're welcome.

That was a nifty find:  http://noemotionhdrs.net/hdrother.html

In these forum posts, one must use the link button to copy the link info, the http thing on its own otherwise gets that ";" added and won't work right ;-)

The black eye issue is an Iray thing ... something about keeping the figure at the 0 position of the floor grid, the further away they are, the worse it may appear. Over at sharecg.com I think it was there are a few free eye morphs to take care of the problem.

Oh ya, I see that now, about the ";" thingy, hmmm, I had not noticed that... Perhaps they are mitigating links to malware ... I never go to any unknown website without dropping the link into virustotal, and failsafe Microsoft App Guard sandbox browser when in doubt.

Great tip about finding a morph, I just went over there and found the Dark Eye Fix from World Center for G8F and G8M, but I do not know how to install them yet.

    Thank you soooo much!
