hello there,

i have a new imac with more power than my old machine...

now i want to make DS 4.6 run on the new imac

i had pretty much trouble when i installed DS on the old mac and i am a bit frightened that the trouble starts again

i am wondering if i have to uninstall everything from the old mac at all?

if so: i assume that DIM is the right way to do so, correct?

i am wondering if there is a possibility to use both computers

that might be handy when rendering big files...

every hint on what to do is very much appreciated!

thanks
o.

There's no need to uninstall from the old machine, DS does not use any kind of product activation. Yes, using DIM to install on the new machine should get everything set up correctly without any fiddling required from you - the new versions of DS know to add the path for DIM-installed content, which may have been part of your problem on the previous system.

I would recommend using Apples Migration Assistant, just hook up the old machine via FireWire or thunderbolt and boot it up in target mode (Hold down T when booting it up), then use the Migration assistant to mode things over, best thing Apple ever done, been there for 15 years and very few use it.

When you boot a machine in target mode it will just look like big diskdrive and the Migration Assistant will move things over like email, settings, applications, data (you choose what to move).

But if you had problems Richards solution is good too, as long as you have enough bandwidth to download, or you just move the files in Download (DIMS download) over to the new and install them with DIM.
