Hi everyone,

I know this has been asked lots of times, but I am hoping that someone kind out there can help me out.

I love using the SMART content folder. For someone news like me, it makes life so much more easy to find my way around. I do not get as much time as I would like to work with DAZ, and the smart items are great at just getting on and working. Also, I have a problem where I like to keep things in order. So the fact that at the moment I find it takes a long time to find things, takes a lot of time away from me making stuff.

Is there such a thing as a starter guide to making smart content? I would like to add smart information and the likes for items that do not have it. Also, I would like to sort out the items at do have smart information to where I want to find them. I have found a few youtube videos to go over this, but it has been for the older DAZ programs, and to be fair, it would help to have some sort of fools guide.

I am little surprised that DAZ has not written up something to help us new people to get started using the wonderful smart folder more......

Thank you for your kind time in reading this, and I will be hoping that someone can help me out.

Check the link in my signature. I created a tutorial on how to get Smart content working for yourself, and how to change your own metadata on items to categorize them as you wish. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask either as a response or in a PM. I do my best to respond to all of them.

    Hi HeraldOfFire,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me and help me out. I am just printing it out now, and will give it a try over the long weekend that we have. By the looks of it, it should do the trick. It is a shame that that can not be made in to sticky post for all of the other new people out there who would get lots of use of it.

    Thank you again. :)

Well first off I want to say a BIG thank you to HeraldOfFire. The help information on smart content and how to move thing around has helped me too no end. I has taken two days to get things the way that I want, but I have it all done for now. So if anyone has the same problems that I had, then read HeraldOfFire's guide.

One thing I have found when I have been sorting things out, is that I got some free items and the like off the net, but as far as I know, I put them all in the right locations. Looking around my file list with in DAZ, I can not find any thing that I have added. Do I need to tell the program to look for the content? Or is there something else I am missing? I added all of the info to the right folders, but nothing comes up.........

Thanks again for all of the great help.

P.S. I am not sure if this makes any difference or not, but I am using a iMac.

If you are looking for them in the content pane (right pane) as opposed to under Smart Content (left pane), content can be shown there in one of two ways. There is Tree View, which displays the folder structure of your content library, or Category View, which displays the content organized by - wait for it - categories. The categories are fairly standardized. I prefer the category view for finding stuff. If in category view, you will notice that there are two main categories: DAZ Studio format content, and Poser format content. Most of the free content or content from other sites will probably be found in one of the subcategories under Poser format. The actual subcategory where the content has been placed may not be intuitive, unfortunately, even if the content creator has not mistakenly placed it in the wrong location (it happens, unfortunately). Try the Pose category first, as a lot of content ends up here.

If you have Poser Format content (most free stuff is) The Content Library Tab is your friend. You can create your own Metadata files for those as well. Just remember that you may need to import new Metadata as you add it to your content. If it is not added to the CMS Database it will still not list the content as Smart Content in the Smart Tab.

EDIT: Some times just closing DAZ Studio and running it again is enough, but not every time it seems.
