hi

making the actual sign ought to be easy enough by using the primitives in studio but how do I apply a "message" to the sign?

is it possible to import either a .jpg or a .jpeg image of what I want displayed on the sign into studio?

thanx

More than welcome! I have a couple more little tutorials on ShareCG - the one on animating may also have some stuff in it that you may find useful as it deals with seeing the other side of the the primitive.

    @Jaderail - oooh, I like the name, mebbe I should put in for a change ... ;)

actually I thought it was kind of a strange name....I won't make that mistake again!

and since we're on the topic of usernames is it a big deal to change one?

when I signed up here I [new user of anything 3D] had just gone through a week of pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to load content into Daz Studio....and to further add to the frustration I was having difficulties with registering here as well ....think my original idea for my user name was something like 3DmeSS ....but to vent I choose 3DthiSS [as in my middle finger] and boy do I regret that now :red:

what do you think....doe's anyone find my user name to be rude or am I just being paranoid?

edit: SIMONJM I forgot to mention I grabbed your pdf on converting V4 to Gen2 textures too ....thanks man

    Paranoid!
Most of us have strange user names. If it bothers you, ask to have it changed. Otherwise, come up with a happier interpretation, like "I love DAZ so much, I 3D everything in sight". Before you know it, you will be addicted, and it will be true.

If you drop a PM to Richard Haseltine or adamr001 giving them the user name you would prefer to use (with a couple of alternatives in case that one is already in use) and a note of the email addy you use to sign in with, they can change it for you

barbult yes I agree that this is addicting ...but holy cow it's been frustrating at times....been at this on and off for about 4 years and have only just begun to produce renders of any quality.....it's a great hobby and am learning something new everyday....thanks for the feedback on my user name...think I'll keep it.

User names can't be changed by users - I'm afraid you need to PM me with your preferred name (ideally with a couple of options in case your first pick is already taken0.

and thanks Richard however unless someone replies to my question and says

"yes as a matter of fact I do find your username to be offensive!" >:-(

I think I'll just leave it alone.

and you know I feel better about this just by bringing the subject up lol

I never once Clicked on your interpretation of 3DthiSS until you posted it. I thought it rather clever truth be told.

Yay!... that's 2 votes saying I'm paranoid....in the past when ever I posted a thread about a problem or question and wasn't getting any replies I wondered if it was because my user name was offensive to some.

actually in some ways I do like the name in that it reminds me of where I was at when I first started.... and how much I've progressed since then.....cause as with everyone else the learning curve in the beginning can be tough to get through.

You never stop learning. My native software is Poser, but each time I open DS up I learn something new and and I'm finding out I really like DS over my native software. Things are so much easier to set up in DS.

cool that you should mention poser Frank0314 cause I've been thinking of checking poser out.

was wondering if there's any issues with installing it along side daz 4.6?

what is the biggest difference between the 2 [poser daz]?

There's a vast difference between the two. Poser can be very frustrating setting up material nodes if you don't already know that they do. I learned from Poser so I understand how things need to be done to work properly. Lights and cameras can be a bit of a pain in Poser. I can set up the same cameras and lights in DS in 1/8 the time it takes in Poser. But, I love Poser and can't put it down so I'm happy using both. Each has its purpose just like with any other software, but no a days I find myself in DS more and more

You can have both systems set up together. Just install the DSON importer into Poser 9 or above and you can use a fair bit of newer content. If you want the most out of your purchases then I'd stick with DS cause almost everything is usable. The UI in DS takes a bit of getting use to but it's nothing to complicated.
