Animate2 sub tracks for Genesis 3 and 8

Why are sub tracks "greyed out" for Genesis 3 and 8 figures in Animate2 in certain circumstances? I can't seem to find any Animate2 documentation anymore online?
As an aside, I really hope Animate2 is updated and maintained. I actually like working with it quite a bit.
