Scalable Triangle Primitive

bradassociatesbradassociates Posts: 106

I'm doing some architectural designing for a pool equipment room to get approval from our Home Owner's Assoc.   Does anyone know how to purchase, create or morph a scalable triangular primitive for Daz?  I know that if one uses a cone primitive and flattens the x or z scale it becomes a triangle, but that reduces it to a 2D with no depth.   Does Daz sell any products that has an object included that might work?  Thx!

Future versions of Daz would be significantly improved if a scalable 3D traingle primitive is included with the other preset primitives.

    There's a triangle in Maclean's morphing primitives pack: https://www.daz3d.com/everyday-morphing-primitives

Well, you can already create a prism by creating a cylinder with 3 sides.

oooh that's thinking outside the box cheeky

The DAZ studio primitives are useful precisely because it's possible to redistribute a duf scene built entirely of them without additional data files, what's even cooler is Poser files using corresponding Poser primitives also get replaced by DAZ ones where there is an equivalent.

Another thing you can do if really keen is get out the geometry editor tool and delete faces, subdivision gives you possibilitys to create door and window holes and DAZ primitives are Dfoceable and Dformable.

  • You mean something like a cylinder with 3 sides?

I got that a while back and was disappointed in that it was for Mac OS, not PC.  So I was unable to use the content.

A simple primitive like, say, a cube.  It would have 3 sides and a front and back.   Such a primitive could be combined with other primitives to expand what 3D objects one can create in Daz other than just cubes, cylinders and cones.

It's trivially easy to create something like this in an actual modeling app. Download Hexagon (or Blender) for free if you don't have access to any of the other options.

  • OK, maybe I needed to spell it out, use the cylinder primitive and set the 'sides' parameter to 3.

Setting the other paramerters to what you need will allow you to make anything from a thin solid trianle to a long toblerone prism.

Rotate, scale and place it where you want to.

Aren't these just objects with morphs? Morphs should not be platform specific.

    These work with a PC.

Odd. I work on a pc and create all my products for pc. I wouldn't know where to begin on a Mac. I didn't even know there was a difference when using props.

These definitely work on PC. What problem did you have with them?

The point is that they morph. Yes, if you have the know-how, you can do it all in a modelling app, but adding dozens of morphs to each primitive is extremely time-consuming. Hence the pack.

I hadn't thought of that, but when you spell it out, I had the 'duh' moment. Thanks. yes wink

I was very confused until I realised the OP has two identically name threads on the same topic

    merged discussions.

Thanks everyone.   The advice on using a cylinder while setting the number of sides to 3 works for creating all triangles except scalene.  For my purpose, this is what I've used.
