I only seem to have two skin tones available to me A Grey that is only useful for Aliens and a metallic Bronze that looks like no race of people I know in the world. I spent hours at ShareCG and Renderocity, and no real clue.

If anyone knows where some basic Skin tone/textures can be down loaded. Celtic, Nordic, African, Asian;
I would very much appreciate the link(s). I am mostly working with Gen1 and Gen2 but have Vic 4; anything for anyone would help I could then explore the settings and adapt from there.

I know that skin tones can be adjusted for in the surfaces tab, yea right the chances of my stumbling upon something that looks human there is about nil; Why some baselines provided with the program? seriously no Caucasian Skins, no Africans, no Hispanic, nothing, while I can almost see the Gray, it looks rather like a Blick Artists mannequin, the Bronze escapes me.

Something that looks like "Bree" would be a nice start.
heck Something at looks Human would be a nice start.

    Umm... the Genesis 1 figure can use any V4 texture or M4 texture at the start. All you need to do is set the UV to the proper figure in the Surfaces tab. There are loads of Free V4 and M4 textures on the net.

    I've been mostly searching "Genesis Skin Textures" so maybe its been mostly a matter of search terms.
    Thankyou Bb.

    are you working in Daz studio or another program
    I ask because in iclone you end up with too much Specular/highlight that needs to be turned down
    Carrara and even Poser can add too much highlight too

    Im working in Daz, but Im just starting out and honestly the names of the parameters make no sense to me; so I did manage to turn Genny Green. LOL
    but that's about it, and going back I could not even reproduce that.. So I figured If I could download some baselines I could tweek from there.

    I do have poser Debut though, and much appreciate the heads up on that problem. BB.

    Not having a clue as to what you know how to do, are you even loading the materials onto the figures? Do you know to select the figure in the Scene tab, go to the Content Library tab, then to Products, locate the name of your figure (for example, Anabelle for Genesis) then click it, then you'll see all the options for her, including the body mats. In other words are you even loading the skin onto the figure? Each character comes with their skin materials (go to "what's included" on the product page and be sure you aren't just buying morphs)

    One of my favorite characters with a different skin tone is Nidale (Edit: because it is a nice warm tone and easy to light.)

    There are some "scandinavian/celctic" tones for M4 that have, cant remember which though, lightly freckled too.
    You can always change the tone, specially using SSS shader, to get the lighter tone.

    Nathen comes to mind: http://www.daz3d.com/m4-ethnique-nathen
    You can use slosh's UV-Setter to help using textures of M4/V4 for later figures.

    Well since my inital post I found this webpage,

    http://www.calida3d.com/tutorials6a.shtml

    Its the best breakdown of how a beginner can approach working with fleshtones I have found so far, and I thought I would share it here.

    I have also taken some samples from one of the Jillian Textures, and photos of actual people to get some basic 'Textrues' to apply as Diffuse maps for Gen or Victoria; this sample came from a photo for a Asian Model; even so for use in DAZ I had to raise the gamma to get a result that even approached the complexion of the original photo.
    And while these samples are small and crude, and the results leave a lot to be desired; the End result at least does not look like Zoidberg's Mother.

    You do understand that skin textures need good lighting to look right in 3D work. The Basic lighting from the render Camera is just built in for fast set up. It was never meant to be the only lighting used in a render. Photo Real skin takes time to set up, not only the skin but the light to get the skin to look good in the render. There is no fast easy way to do good 3D.

    Good to know, and TY;
    but for my own purposes just now, The simple textures I'm starting to collect should be fine; as my intention is not so much 3D; but to use DAZ much as Poser was originally intended as more of a virtual model for 2D studies, traditional, and as a Layer in something Like Manga Studio, or Sketch book. It will allow me to work with Angles and Ideas that can be inconvenient or simply impossible to with an actual life model. anyhow these small adjustments have at least eliminated the rather distracting Zoidberg look; and I'm reasonably happy with my present results for present purposes. But I have looked at the full Jillian map and I do appreciate that what Im doing is not close to that level of detail just now. BB.

    Update: 9May14: I ultimately down loaded the Reaven Character package at Renderostiy; while techinically a vampire the skin works for very Northern types, and Jillian for less pasty Caucasians; there are some textures for other ethnicities free at CGShare will post a link later. BB.
