@fishtales Your steam carriage images look great.  If I may, what environment are they set in?

    Thanks, Peter

It is the HDRI from the Yosemite set Part 1 plugged into the Environment Map of the Iray Dome.

Thank you.  I hadn't reallu looked at that set, as it predates iray, and I didn't think it would be of use.  Clearly it is/

Just clicking on it to load wont work in Iray, well not without a lot of work, only 3delight, but if you load the HDRI into the Environment Dome of Iray that does.

Thanks @Fishtales! I have the products which I bought before I understood about the differences and was frustrated when I tried to use them and got 'Black' on my screen. Now I can.

LOL I actually rendered her yesterday two different ways. I've been outside doing massive yardwork yesterday and today, so since I'm inside resting, I'll go ahead and post her. :)  Give me a few.

Aella (G8f)      Gem Hair  (G3f)(G8F)       Beautiful Brows (G8F)     Agate Noir (G8F)

Used 9 straight for the eyebrows from Beautiful Brows on the normal look. There wasn't a brown brow unless I'm just not seeing it. There are dark eyelashes.  I think that pale mark at the end and slightly above the brow is from the Beautiful Brows. I'll look on the white Aella in a minute. I'll add those images here.

Gem Hair has a nice white color (and I added a slight blue tint.)  You'll need to watch your angle with that hair. If you look at the fairies, and look at the side view on mine, that arch cutting out the hair going over the ear looks a bit too curved and cut up into the pattern.

Agate Noir has a nice flow, I didn't do anything to it. Also has what looks to be a nice variety material set  Psyche

I don't like the amount of blush on her. I'd postwork some of that out.

You'll see how different she looks with the "normal" and "white-blue" gal.  :)  You do get a variety  I do wish the blush were less, there was a brown brow, and that all the makeups weren't so harsh. (I wish that with a LOT of vendors. Seems like the trend is going with overly bold, (to me garish) bright colors. We need some natural looking browns, grays, barely-there mauves and greens.

Oh, I just have to tell you the latest about Ci Pwff. First, he's really grown. He was 15 pounds when he came home, now he's 32 pounds. Just turned five months old. Well, he's figured out how to get out of the kitchen nook area, where I have all the pooches barracaded in with gate panels. That's a long story.  It's nice having them all in the nook so all their toys and bones are in one place.

Last night, I decided to trust him because it's hit and miss, and he was snoozing so soundly in front of the floor fan I didn't want to wake him up.

This morning, I got up and came out to the great room, and lo and behold my shoes and socks are all neatly in a pile beside a huge stack of toys, in the great room. With Ci Pwff laying there innocently beside them like, "I did good, huh?"

I'd like to make a useful list of hair which has a white or very light gray option so folks can add their own color to it easily. I thought about this as I was trying to find a white hair for Aella. People shouldn't have to buy other hair products (shaders) so if they know which hair is light, they can more easily piddle with it. If you find a super light blonde (such as Platinum) we can include that, too.

Anyone game to go through their hairs for Gen 8 gals / guys and contribute? I'll add it to a main list, then put it in the References on the first page under Tips: Hair- White / Light Gray.  I'd like to do Genesis 8 Gals first, but if the hair has a Genesis 3, or Genesis 8 Male option, let me know and I'll note that in the list.

I'd like to start at the top of the alphabet, I'm using Content Library- Genesis 8 Female Hairs.

If you have any by the vendor which aren't listed, or any in the alphabet that we're on which aren't listed, let me know and I'll add to the main list. Tell me which ones you're doing and I'll put your name by them. See next post

@memcneil70   Great list! Thanks for pitching in. I'll go through my B-D's after I take a shower. Just finished yardwork for the day. Our county dump has removed all cost for vegetation hauling through Tuesday, so far I've saved over $65. Been cutting tree limbs and  trimming like crazy for four days, and raking leaves. Everyone being home means yardwork, and our county was smart to do this- everyone is hauling their yard stuff if they can. And they had a person out by the road handing out the tickets and we don't have to even wait in line at the scales to get through. Very well organized. I go around the scale/booth, pull up to the vegetation area, give a second guy the ticket, and away I go.

No problem, about to head out for Bugsy's night walk and then off to chill for bed. Up at 0330 for work day. But, there is E - Z tomorrow if others have not got there yet. I also found a hair that I don't think made it to Smart Content. I am using Content Library under G8F/Hair which is cleaner. But one word of caution for everyone, the dForce colors, may shift depending on your monitors.

BTW, were your socks and shoes without teeth marks?

And if he likes leather, and you have books, I would put all nice books up above his reach. I lost a group to puppies over the years.

No yard work for me, but I cheered last week when some tulips blossomed that were left over from last year. But no plantings by the city this year, the budgets all going to more critical things.

LOL yep, but my shoe laces were sopping wet!

To answer an earlier question, we're not doing links. That would take forever and a day.

After installing the update DS would just sit indefinitely with the message "preparing scene". I had to update my nVida drive and that solved the problem.

Is there documentation for why it seems the "architectural sampler" is missing from the optimization tab?

Removed the "Architectural Sampler" property from Render Settings

    • Support for this setting was removed from NVIDIA Iray as of 2017.1 beta (296300.616)

Way back when, I used the Architectural Sampler because all areas of the image were given equal weight, and when the light areas were clear of noise/grain, so were the dark areas. However, once I turned Quality off, it was no longer an issue. I didn't even notice when the option stopped working.

I recommend turning off the Quality setting, (whatever it's called now,) to anyone who asks about render settings. Set Max Time to 0, as well. Then you control the length of the render by setting Max Samples. If you set that too low, it's easy enough to increase the number and hit the Resume button. That's always rendered much the same way as the Architectural Sampler. The new Iray in the later releases of DS does more per sample, too. Each iteration may take longer, (don't know if that's still true with the latest release,) but it takes fewer samples to get a good, clean image.

I had a Folder of Materials for a hair just after Lucinda Hair. When I opened it, I found they were for Brynn Hair that came with the character and the materials were mislabelled, the Iray materials were identified as RSL and the 3Delight as MDL. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the package which did not help. I tracked down the hair's 'Brynn Hair.duf' file in the bottom of the Hair folder mixed in with the .dsa and .png files. This is a 3DUniverse hair. I loaded in from the Products and found it had one hair material that might fit our search.  Customer Service report submitted. And Amy replied already, sent on to Bug Tracker!

Brynn Hair - Dirty Blonde (a light, streaky blonde)

@barbult and @L'Adair, Thank you.  I've been using it up intal a few days ago when a news daz version installed and noticed it than as I wanted to try it on the woodsman bathroom. and the option is now gone.

I've used these as base settings for a long time. I should turn off Quality Settings? I'll give that a try. This new version of daz is much faster after nVidia update on the drivers. There are some additianl new parameters that I've not yet exploreed like "POST SSIM"

It's been years since I first got brave enough to turn Quality Enable off. With it on, the software tests for convergence frequently, and it appeared to favor light areas over dark. It would reach the Convergence Ratio and stop rendering. The light areas looked great, but the dark areas would still look noisy/grainy. Using the Architectural Sampler stopped that favoritism. But so did bypassing the whole Quality/Convergence code by disabling Quality. But again, that was years ago.

Iray has been evolving steadily, and I still keep the Quality disabled, so I have no idea how the Quality/Convergence results have changed over the years.

Sorry I haven't been online. We have a fire situation north of the barn and fortunately for the barn, it continues to move north. It went from 30 acres to 150 acres and only 40 percent contained. They do say the fire will not spread much overnight due to the humidity and the wind has gone down. The barn owner had already gone to a staycation at the beach, I couldn't reach her but I am in contact with the barn manager. She didn't know about the fire, but at the night check a few minutes ago, she said there's no smell of smoke and she can't see any orange glow.  The fire department is sending most of their crew home for the evening, so apparently it isn't thought to be explosive in nature.

Anyway, I'm going to try and grab some sleep so I can get up in the middle of the night and see what the situation is, the barn manager is sleeping with her phone on. It should be okay since the concern is north. This is the photo I took while at the county landfill today. I was like, "What is that, and where is it headed? It's HUGE."

Thanks @tabascojack   I'm headed back to the county landfill most of today, it's still free and I have several more loads to haul. Thing is, that fire was moving north, and it's south of the landfill, so..... gonna get going this morning. If it's still moving north, that's too close for comfort at the landfill because my photo was taken at 2pm and it got 60 acres bigger by 5pm.  I can't find any updates on it, if I do, I'll let everyone know.

Hi, I was looking for some thecnical help and I just saw, your comment..

In my defence that was one of the first HDRI´s product that I made and didnt make the last post processing steps that I do now, because some people like the photo with the Raw look with the grain to make it more realistic. So at that stage I decided to keep it. Only after the use of them I realised that it would be more convinient not to have that grain. So my lastest HDRI´s dont have that Sky grain. (wich can be removed by bluring it in PS).

But, yes it is a bit too much grain, also in my first´s HDRI´s the Horizon line is not tottaly straight. To be honest I didn´t worry too much because those are things one can fix when doing the post work in Photoshop. Now I am more worried.

When you guys see, serious error´s or anoying stuff you can message me (you can use the contact page at www.whitemagus3dmodels.com), so I know because I dont go to forums that often.

You can also check the quality of the HDRI´s here http://www.whitemagus3dmodels.com/?category=Free  before you buy.

Taoz-Thanks for the feedback.  I've tried a couple of your free ones but they still have a lot of noise or compression (camera?) artifacts.  Are there some better ones?

    -------

This a response to Taoz questions (had to copy paste it was on diferent tread):

The ones from the HDRI beach super pack on foward are a little bit better, that includes the HDRI Tokyo Cityscapes the Green fields, and  on foward.

However in terms of sharpeness and level of detail the ones form DimensionTheory are better I imagine the ones from Bob Callawah Cake One also, that is why they call it UltraHD, mines do not have that much quality in terms of photo definition per say.

What I can say is that in terms of light specially sunlight with hard shadows my HDRI´s mimics reality more closely I put a lot of efort on that, so still I prefer the light producced by my HDRI´s  versus the DimensionTheory also I cannot say that for all DimensionTheory HDRI´s I only tried a few of the base ones. So if you really need a sharp image you sould go for DimensionTheory

In relation to file size more colors and deeper range higher size in the HDRI image, I wish it could go lower (it takes a lot of disk space and we have to store them in a diferent disk and bring them back when necessary) , but there is a considerable diference from a render from an 8K to a render from an 16K HDRI, sometimes it does not matter but other times it makes an huge diference, I made a lot of test with the Twisted Tower promo images, and specially if you have clouds and going for a realist image deep range with loots of colours matters a lot. That is why the ones that you guys say that have noise (which I agree) specialy the first ones some of them are my favorites because the noise brings a lot of colors that is why they are heavier images in size. And I didn´t make that on purpose I just noticed while testing it with the Twisted Towers. So I wont change those ones, still  I might add 8K to those first packs if you all find it necessary.

That is it, hope you find this helpfull.

ps.Also if you need quick responses you have to PM me.
