Victoria 6, Michael 6, etc... what exactly am I buying?
Hey all, I discovered DAZ 3D a few days ago and having sunk about 10 hours into playing around with it I'm really liking what it offers. I'm actually hoping that it will help me with my drawing abilities, as things like anatomy and perspective have always troubled me. By being able to block out, and pose characters in a scene it'll give me a better guide for when I go to actually draw it.
At any rate I'm looking to up my 3D modeling game, but I'm a but unsure as to what to look into.
The base Genesis 2 models that come with DAZ 3D are quite useful, and have good articulation for vary basic things. But they aren't without their limitations.
So my question is, the Victoria 6, Michael 6, etc... models that are sold here, I understand that they are built off the Genesis 2 base model. But do they have further articulations? Further morph functionality?
In short, can I massage more phenotypes out of them then what I can in the Genesis 2 models?
Also, another question I can't find a clear answer to...
I notice that a very large majority of clothing models require certain specific character models. Is this due to requiring certain articulation joints the base Gen2 models don't have? Or is it something else. Can these props be used on the base Gen2 models with Autofit? Or will they just not work?
I really don't want to spend money when I don't understand these basic compatibility questions. So I thought I'd just ask. Thanks for any insight you can offer.
EDIT: Oh and just a general question while I have the forum's ear.... is there any way to scale a section of the base Gen2 model in one direction (taller or wider) or can you only scale the sections as a whole? Basically, is there somewhat to make longer legs, without also making them wider, etc... If not, can the Victoria6/Michael6 models?

Hi James
Yes each body part can be scaled. If you 'Transform' using the parameters Tab you can access the individual X, Y and Z sliders.
This example is just the Base G2f:
First of all the original Genesis figure (Generation 5) was neither male or female (or both depending on how you look at it), and it comes with the Autofit clones for Victoria 4 (V4) Michael 4 (M4) and The Kids 4 (K4), so any of their clothing can be Autofit to Genesis without further purchases. Other 'Iconic Shapes' for Genesis are available for purchase which add clones to Autofit for Generation 3 models as well, and give Genesis 'the look' of these previous models.
Genesis 2 has both a Male and Female Version (G2M and G2F), and Autofit has a clone for Genesis (Generation 5) supplied with the figures. If you want to Autofit directly to G2F or G2M, you would need to buy the packages that contain the Autofit clones from the store, but it can still be done in two stages, by first converting to Genesis (Gen 5) and then saving that and applyin to G2F or G2M using the supplied Autofit clone.
Since V6 and M6 are built on the base Genesis 2 mesh, there wont be much difference in bending or stretching of limbs etc. There are limits which you can override though.
If you have any specific problems with Genesis 2, you ask any questions you may have here on the forum, with explicit examples. G2 is a much improved figure, but there can still be problems with extreme poses.
There are lots of morph sets for Genesis 2 in the store, which would give you a lot more options than V6 or M6, such as expression morphs.
So, just to be clear, Morph Sets don't require V6 or M6? I only ask because I see some pose sets that require V6 or M6.
For some of the sliders to appear, you need to go to the drop-down menu for the Parameters pane, and select 'Show Hidden Properties'.
The menu is at the top right hand side of the pane (looks like little lines with a small triangle.
Ah HA. There it is. Thank you very much!
Poses made specifically for M6 and V6 will still work on Genesis 2 M or F, but may need some adjustment to look the same. The Product Page will tell you that usually.
There are plenty of morphs ( not poses) for Genesis 2 Male and Female.

Type in 'morphs' in the search box for the Store.
Okay, this is much more straight forward then I was thinking it was. Thank you for helping to clarify for me.
I use the 'City Limits' layout so nothing's hidden.:-)
