Where to install Vic 4.

Installing Daz Content

After hours of futilely trying to find definitive information on where I should install my content; I decided
I needed to employ your installation manager which I only discovered exists quite by accident in my search and is inexplicably a separate application.

I am on your install manager info page,

http://www.daz3d.com/install-manager-info/

I click on the 'How and where do I set up my

download locations?' Link which takes me to...

http://www.daz3d.com/install-manager-info/

Look familiar, it should because it takes me to the

top of the page I'm already on... which is not useless, it's funny right? Right? After all nothing is funnier than morphing your so called help pages into a bad joke;

When I finally find the default Directory information it is OF COURSE inconsistent with where your guidance on installing content by hand would tell me to install my downloaded content.

C:\users\Public\My Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

VS

C:\users\[your user account]\My Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

As indicated by your own help page.

http://wiki.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/dazcontentconfiguration#choose_your_install_path

but hey why should they be consistent; no no no,, it's so much funnier if they are not; so much funnier if we just scatter the content all over the hard drive and hope the application finds it; which of course it wont!

And then there is the question of does the user still need to create a Poser subdirectory I have seen mentioned in some very old documentation; and where would that go...

Your so called help is a mess of broken links, and self contradictory nonsense; when something that should help can in fact be found.

Here's a concept, Potential New Users should not have to have a trance medium access the Akashic Record to use your application!

I am trying to use your Product on a Windows 7 computer; could someone please tell me where YOUR content should actually be installed.
and in which order the 3 separate applications that make your Victoria 4 Figure need to be installed and do they all go in the same directory; because I have been wrestling with your help and documentation for hours and the only thing I know for sure now is

I DONT KNOW. ... BB.

What browser are you using? Do you have javascript blocked? The links you cite work fine for me.

The reason for the 2 different install locations is because some recommend installing Install Manager content and other content to separate locations. Personally, I install to the same location. Either location will work fine for Victoria 4.

ETA: And use the same location for the separate packages.

Thankyou much for your prompt response.

No, JavaScript is not blocked; I use it myself on my own web page.

I think I understand your reply vs managed content; do I need to add a poser subdirectory and where would that go given a primary path of, C:\users\[your user account]\My Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

The DAZ Install Manager (DIM) installs by default into : C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library.

Older content that used the Bitrock installers, went into a folder called 'My Library', the new folder is called 'My DAZ 3D Library' and that is where DIM installs to. EVERYTHING gets installed into My DAZ 3D Library, DAZ Studio AND Poser content. There is a Runtime folder created by DIM to hold Poser content, so there is no need to do anything other than install to My DAZ 3D Library, DIM knows where to put everything.

Before you use the DIM for the first time, it would be a good idea to set the filters for what content. you will actually be using. To get to the settings menu, click on the little gear icon at the top right of the interface, and select 'Downloads'. Place a checkmark at the applications that you use, Poser, DAZ Studio, maybe Carrara or Bryce if you use them? That way, people who only use DAZ Studio do not see Poser Companion Files (PoserCF) in their download lists, or Carrara version if they don't have Carrara.

Next, go to the Applications tab, and fill in the path to DAZ Studio, Carrara, Bryce and Photoshop (if you use it and want to use the DS plugin) and the same applies to ZBrush if you use it with the DS plugin.

So, to recap, everything gets installed into My DAZ 3D Library, and you then need to enter that path into the Content Directory manager inside DAZ Studio, under BOTH Poser Formats AND DAZ Studio Formats. Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager.

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/install_manager/start Documentation for DIM.

    EDIT
I took so long to type that it was a cross post in the end :)

Thanks much for your time, and clear patient explanation. BB.

Thanks Jim, I did reinstall on Saturday, and ultimately got the IM content into the Library I want it in.. I still have to have the program discover the My Library (vs My IM Library) folder every time I start the app. The program does not seem to remember content that has been installed by any means but the IM. Still its not a huge issue just yet. TY for your help BB.

Blackbirdx61 use the GEAR icon on DIM, upper right, then set the PATH here to the one you wish DIM to use at all times. I would first use DIM to Uninstall all it has installed, Installed section then uninstall, then set the proper path and then Install. That should fix everything.
