Moving content

I assume that if I create a scene, save it, then move content via the content library that if I try to reload that scene it will have difficulty in finding the items? (assuming that I moved something that was in the scene).

No, thankfully it doesn't work that way. The files you see in the Content Library don't point to other content files, they point to the actual data making up the mesh objects, morphs and textures which are stored somewhere else. This folder, named "data" is invisible to the Content Library tab, so it's impossible to accidentally move or delete files (which will indeed cause Something Nasty™ to happen if you do it deliberately, files in the data folder must not be messed with). The only outcome of moving content files around is to mess up Smart Content and Categories for installed content (i.e. not anything you've saved yourself), and that's only an option, you can work in D|S perfectly well without having to use them. It can be a bit tricky to get used to, though.
Ahh good to hear. I thought perhaps it was moving everything, but apparently not. So if you move things around, and then DIM has a update, it won't have say copies of some content?
I know I could have tested this easy enough but after messing up the database a couple of times already, I figured better ask first than rebuild the daft thing again lol.
If you move files and install an update with DIM you will have duplicates. If you create Categories rather than moving the files on disk, then DIM will be able to update them.
Interesting. Ok that was my original suspicion (as how would it know etc), but when I found out that items wouldn't appear to go "missing" from a saved scene after moving them I wondered. Thanks!
The scene file references items in the data and textures folder, not the ones that show in the Content Library (although for Poser-format items the .duf saves their location, so that if the data folder files are lost they can be rebuilt).
