dForce Hair - Need assistance.

Hello All,

I have decided to try out some of the dForce hair on my figures today.  I have the dForce hair for Darcy 8.

However, selecting it and putting it into a render seems to yeild a bald head.   I also select the dforce hair and tried to put it in a simulation and that also yeilds...a bald head.  I followed this tutorial here:

And guess what?  The end result is...(everyone say at the same time now) a bald head!

So it does seem that the video is leaving something out that I have to do first.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Geo

Are you actually rendering the scene? By default dForce hair doesn't appear in Iray preview.

Okay, yeah that was it.  But it doesn't make sense that it doesn't show up in the Iray preview.  You said by default so can I set it to show up then?

It makes sense as it eats up quite a bit of resources, so it can be a nuisance while you're working on the scene.

To make it appear in Iray preview you need to switch "Preview PR Hair" to "on" in the parameters for the hair. It's in General > Line Tesselation parameters group

Okay, that allows me to see it in the textured preview, but not the Iray preview.  I would prefer to see the hair in the iray preview so I can see what it looks like.  Where is the setting for that?

    Thanks,

    Geo

It's supposed to work for iray preview too. If it's not, you may need to set a higher value to the "viewport line tesselation sides" parameter.

Thank you.  Of late I am actually finding myself avoiding dForce hair purchases and I created a thread on this in regards to the overall amount of work that goes into setting  up dForce hair and just not being happy with the results:
