Deformers on terrain? (SOLVED)
I am new to deformers. I tried to use it on Versatile Terrain 2, but when I try to alter the terrain a bit, DS says I have to choose an object first. I have the terrain choosen. Doesn't terrain count as an object?
These are my general questions.
1. Can you alter terrain with D-formers? If so; how? (Given the above standing error message)
2. Is there another way to partially raise (or lower) the ground on terrain?

I JUST saw that message, but now for the life of me I can't remember why or what I did next, except that I did get past it. Possibly I ended up selecting a different node (in the Scene pane) on the object to get around the message; if that is appropriate in your case, see if it works for you.
I would try to get the Dformer working first, but if for some reason that doesn't work out, if you own some other modeling application such as Hexagon you could try modifying it there and bringing it back to DS, but that will be somewhat harder. Depending on how much and what kind of deformation you wanted I suppose you could try messing with displacement, but I'm guessing that probably won't work out as desired. Another low-budget method of modification if all you wanted was an extra bump somewhere on the terrain would be a second object (a rock, a second copy of the terrain, a sphere, etc.) with the same or a similar material stuck into it. It won't blend well, but if it's in a shadow or a piece of terrain that sticks up behind another piece, you might not see the area where it fails to blend and it might work out fine.
IN DS4 the geometry belongs to the root node - what exactly do you have selected when trying to apply the DForm?

I am using Versatile Terrain 2 and I am just clicking on the ground (see pic)
@Sean
In this case I want to level the ground so I can put a building on it without having gaps underneath or parts of the building covered with stone.
To level the ground the easy way would be to scale y-axis to 0(zero).
I am in the middle of a long render at the moment, so I can't test your solution, but wouldn't that either raise all of the terrain OR make all of the terrain flat? There is just a small portion of the ground I want to raise.
Will other object functions work on the terrain - for example, if you go to Edit>Object>Geometry wiil the triangulate or Convert to SubD commands work?

If it's all raise then it might work to have two copies of the terrain and y scale one, then move it up into place - there shouldn't be a visible seam as the mesh would be in register with itself, and if you limited the scale to nearly but not exactly 0% you might be able to avoid too sharp a change of angle.
@Richard
The Convert to SubD not only worked, it made the D-form work as well. I don't know what "Convert to SubD" does... but it worked. Now the building neither has gaps underneath nor is covered with stone.
Many thanks.
