Help Me, Daz3D members! You're My Only Hope! (Poser Related)
So, after two years of complete inability to work with either Poser 9 or DazStudio, I'm about ready to give up completely. I've been using Poser for several years, and I LOVE it! But, when I upgraded to Poser 9, I found that I suddenly couldn't install all the stuff I've purchased here on Daz3D's site. I struggled and fought and looked for methods that others have tried. Still no luck. So, I broke down and gave DazStudio a try. Epic fail, on my part. I can't seem to wrap my head around it, no matter how hard I try. I can't even find half my stuff on the DazStudio interface. It's just not the right program for me. So, I'm on my last effort. Does anyone know if the problems with Poser were resolved with Poser 10? If I upgrade, will I finally be able to install all my stuff and be able to get back to my passion, or am I screwed?
Thanks to anyone who is able to offer me any support...or the name of a good therapist. ;)

I haven't heard of anyone having trouble installing DAZ 3D products in Poser 9 or any other flavour.
Of course anything that is Genesis needs DSON, and you do have to be careful not to buy anything that says it is DS only. Apart from that everything should be fine. What exact problems are you having?
I have the DSON, and I'm making sure that I have stuff that says it's good in Poser. But, ever since I got Poser 9, I install things, and they just don't show up. Anywhere. I found a few fixes here on these forums a year or two ago, and I tried everything they said to try. No luck. Installation goes through just fine. But, when I open the program and try to get things going, my library doesn't have the things I've installed. Very frustrating. Maybe I need to just wipe my system and try again...?
Where are you installing the content to? Are you using DIM to download and install content?
That's the new program that downloads and installs everything you've purchased to DazStudio, yes? I tried that. It probably worked just fine. But, DazStudio and I just don't get along very well. I'm not even sure how many different ways I've tried installing things to Poser 9, but I'd say that Michael and Victoria 4 are probably installed in about 5 or 6 different places, by now. lol I've been trying to force myself to learn DazStudio for about 6 months, now. So, I'd have to go back and try to remember all the different methods I've tried with Poser. Give me a bit, and I'll see what I can come up with.
Wait, wait, wait... Can I use that Daz Install Manager to install things in Poser? I thought it was only for DazStudio. Hmm...
Yes you can use it for DS, Poser, Bryce, Carrara
The DIM will only Download and Install DAZ 3D content but it will do that for ANY program that DAZ 3D supports.
Wow, do I ever feel stupid. Now, I just have to figure out how to get it to do that. At the moment, I'm fighting with it to get it to install to Poser, rather than to some random folder in MyDocuments. *le sigh* You know, I used to be so good with Poser. Lately, I'm feeling dumber and dumber. lol
Set the DIM to use the POSER version you have... in the GEAR.
Set the PATH in this Part using the Browse and ADD and Minus button...
I think this is where I'm getting screwed up. I try to add a shortcut to the list at C?ProgramFiles(86)/SmithMicro/Poser9. It tells me that "The folder specified contains files that were not installed by InstallManager. It is strongly recommended that an empty folder, or a folder previously managed by InstallManager, be selected." Duh? Do I tell it to install there, anyway? Or do I make a new folder? I'm still lost. lol
Well first OFF if your on a Win7 OS the Programs Area is NOW protected and even your POSER content should not be there.
Oh. So...should I just let it install it to that random folder that it wants to go to?
When I installed P9 I had it install the Content to my DATA Drive. To use the DS Content I added a DS DSON folder there. I then pointed the P9 to ITS Runtime folder. That was the way I read the instructions for using DSON and PoserCF's with Dson. I will admit I never use it as I'm a DS user long before Poser but I did load the Genesis into P9 by following the Guide.
Not sure that I get that whole thing, but I'll try. So, how do I direct P9 to that runtime folder?
And then one last question(I HOPE!!!) How do I get all my items back onto the list? I see everything in the Installed list, but how do I get it all back to the Ready To Install list?
To Clear DIM for reinstall from Scratch you can just DELETE the C:/Users/Public/PublicDocuments/DAZ 3D/InstallManager>ManifestFiles folder that holds the Installed content data. You will also want to get rid of the CMS Data base as you will need to make a NEW database as well.
In Poser 9 you will need to do ADD content Folder and then point the NEW Added folder to the DAZ Studio folder. Please READ the user manual before you run off and do all this stuff. I Think it covers all this...

Jaderail, you're awesome! Thanks so much for all your help. Hopefully, I'll be able to get it going from here. It's been 2 years since I was last able to make any new stuff, and it's been killing me. Hopefully, I'll be able to help someone, someday, as well. ;)
