Installed DAZ3D for the first time and on the Actors, Wardrobe & Prop tab ,there's no content. I thought when I installed DAZ it installed a default set of stuff.

Do I need to buy/download additional content?

Install manager says I have the Genesis 2 female and Male starter essentials.

Thanks for your help!

Did you install the Starter Essentials? Can you select the "All" category on the Smart Content tab? Do items show up in Content Library?

    To answer the questions:

Did you install the Starter Essentials? Yes!
Can you select the “All” category on the Smart Content tab? Yes!
Do items show up in Content Library? No!

Seems like a path to the content issue. But where?

DIM by default, installs to C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

You need to go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager and make sure that path is listed as BOTH DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats.

Do you have another content library as well, like 'My Library'?

I neglected to mention that I'm running DAZ 3D on a Mac. So your paths will be different than mine.

What I have installed is the default content that comes with Daz 3D.

What I noticed when reinstalling the DAZ Content Management Service, the path to the database doesn't exist. The DAZ 3D folder does not exist in the Library folder. So where's the database live on the Mac?

    /Library/DAZ 3D/Content Management Service/databases

    This shouldn't be this difficult.

You don't need to worry about database paths...yet.

The Content Directory Manager, in DS, either from the menu in the Content Library or Edit > Preferences > Content Library, is what you need...

Post a screenshot of what paths are listed there.

Here is a liink about installing which includes the Mac information :
    https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/entries/20659227-content-configuration-in-daz-studio-4

In the DIM (DAZ Install Manager) there should be a default path listed to where the content was installed to. In the Ready to Install tab, click on Show Details to see the list of possible paths (only one if you have not added any)

I found the content installed in My DAZ 3D Library
According to the Content Directory Manager, those paths are correct. See screens.

Well...the paths are mapped and matching. That's usually a big one in the 'no content' problem.

You are looking in the Smart Content pane, and this relies on CMS (Content Management Service) to be running.

Please check that CMS is running, and also check to see if your content appears in the Content Library pane Content will always appear in the Content Library pane, even if CMS is not running.

OK, I think we're getting somewhere. Yes, content does appear in the Content Library. I don't see the CMS running in the Activity Monitor, although sometimes processes are under a different name.

If it's not running, how do you launch the CMS using a Mac?

    Thanks

This is from the Knowledge Base under Help > Documentation from the forum menu:

    Mac

On the Mac, quit DAZ Studio 4 so it is not running. You can check the status of services on your Mac, by browsing to and launching this:

    MacHD\Applications\Utilities\Activity Monitor.app

Change the drop-down on the top to 'All Processes.' Check to see whether the DAZ Content Management Service is listed.

You can launch the DCMS (DAZ Content Management Service), by browsing to his location and double-clicking 'Start DAZ Content Management Service:'

MacHD/Library/DAZ 3D/Content Management Service/Utilities/Start DAZ Content Management Service.

Now launch DAZ Studio 4 and check to see that the Smart Content Tab (MyStuff Tab) is working.

See if that helps, if not we have a member called Totte who uses a Mac, and he will be along soon I hope ;)

    Hello,

Depending on where your Content Manager System is installed, you can find two applescripts in the CMS folder in the subfolder utilities, called Start DAZ Content Manager Service and Stop DAZ Content Manager Service, they do just that.

Which OS X version are you running btw?

    / Totte

Found them, problem is they generate an error when I try to start the CMS. A .plist file is missing.

I'm tempted to uninstall and start from scratch.

In the DIM folder in /Applications/DAZ3DIM is a folder named cms, it contains the CMS installer, you can use that to reinstall it.

Btw, do you have any LaunchControl hacks installed? The error indicates that the plist has been move/removed. There are some "optimization tools" that does things like that to "speed up your mac", what they do is remove plists for things they don't think you need to have running, so they wont start.

Do you mean apps like Clean My Mac?

Reinstalling should replace any files that have gone missing. Let me try that.

Yes, one of many programs that will mess things up if you not are careful.

The best drive cleaning program is the one that sits on the key side of the keyboard...regardless of what platform you are running. None of the automatic clean up routines is all that smart, for any OS, so you will run into these problems no matter which one, for your OS of choice, you use.

    Finally, got things working again.

Uninstalled everything, including manually deleting left over files. Clean install solved the problem.

I don't know what happened to screw things up, but I sure did learn where things are stored.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
