What's going on with 'buck'?

I have recently purchased 'Buck' and 'Buck poses', because I want to compose a picture with deer in it. 'Buck' has 2 items in it - buck and buck map. I loaded buck, which had no real texture, then buck map, which applied the texture. So far so good. Then, I tried to pose the animal using one of the buck poses'. It didn't move the deer, but loaded another (untextured) one in the set pose. OK, I thought, each of the poses actually loads the animal as well. I started again and just clicked on the buck pose. It said I had to apply it to something. I started again. This time, I loaded buck, but not the buck map. I posed the animal, then tried applying the buck map. This time, the map was loaded as a separate animal in a sort of distorted version of the buck's pose! I know this is a very old product, but can someone advise me how I can get a textured, posed buck?

Buck Map is probably a fully-loaded animal with texture rather than a material preset -- ignore the regular buck and just load the Buck Map figure. This product dates back to before material-setting poses were developed.
