If you hope to use auto-fit often, with smart content , you may need manulaly add compatibility in Content DB editor,
for all figure which you can use auto-fit.
And there are already request, to add option which can show all items, ignore compatiblity with selection.
but at current we have no option. I think.
then I use another way,
1. without select figure, find clothing (or material, poze etc) which you hope to use.
2 R-click the item, then select show in content library.
3. then select Actor, load item from content library. it may auto-fit, or applied.
then return smart content. reply these steps.
it is not so smart way, but I often need the way about many case ^^;
eg material files, poze files etc. these are often used for another figure which have not compatilbity.
(but they work usually )
Meta data are useful but there are many case, the strict compatiblitly limits us too.
or we need set compatilbity manually .
I don't think I've ever used smart content. I like using the content library much better. I use to use categories but haven't been to motivated to reset them back up since DIM

I think the suggestion, adding option, is very good.
I currently do the same way as you.
But this is annoying me alot.

I do not have good memory...
I need to go through almost all "content library" to locate the right staff!
This wastes a lot of time.
I don't use the CMS, so don't even have a Smart Content tab showing. Like Frank, I prefer the Content Library tab much better.
As far as remembering where I have everything, I install in subfolder(s) for any particular character I want to work with. IOW, for instance, if I was looking for clothing for V4, I have all her clothing installed under Characters > !V4 > Clothing. I also have a subfolder for !V4 > Characters (for her different character sets), Morphs, and generic Poses. That way all of V4s content is pretty much in the same place. (See screenshot below)
The only thing I don't do that for is hair, because often the hair is available for more than one character, so it makes sense to leave it in the main Hair folder.

This is yet another reasons I hardly ever use smart content.
I have been putting everything into categories that are organized in a way I understand, so I can find things when I go looking for them.
