Fitting clothes to Genesis without auto-fit

Hi guys,
I'm trying to use some A3 clothes with Genesis at the moment. I have the A3 shape for Genesis, but don't want to have the strange shaping issues that occur when using Autofit, nor the bizarre effects that it has on skirts and similar items.

Is there any way of getting the clothing to 'Fit to' my Genesis without triggering the auto-fit? Or am I just going to have to parent items to her hip and then pose them manually?

Cheers!

if you want to have them fit to Genesis then you are going to have to rerig them, either using AutoFit or by the Transfer Utility. Once rerigged either way you can then use the Joint Editor tool to add extra bones, and the Polygon Group Editor and Node Weight Paint tool to edit the weights.

As an alternate method to what Richard has suggested...it is possible to position and scale the clothing without conforming then send both the figure and the clothing to hexagon. Lock the figure and then move the clothing around to fit it to the different shape. Then send it back to ds and use the transfer utility not autofit and you get less distortion. I have done this successfully with Genesis and V4 items to Dawn but it is fiddly.

What item are you trying to convert I've managed to convert some of the A3 problems using autofit without too many issues maybe I can help?

    Hi Pendraia,

I'm noticing this effect mostly around skirts that rely on multiple bones or movement morphs rather than following the figure they're fitted to - items like the Cool Breeze skirt or the Earane outfit

    Hi,

Skirts can be fiddly...can you give me a specific example that I hopefully have and can show you how I would go about converting?

You could consider using Sickle Rigging and Morphing System to help with the conversions. It's intended for use with 4th and 5th Generation clothing items, but people have gotten good results converting stuff for 3rd Generation characters as well.
