Has anyone used GLEAM?

I wish I knew how to do a better job of searching these forums. I try putting keywords in the "search the forum" box but end up with lots of results and then pages and pages of content to each thread.

Anyway... I'm wondering if anyone has used the product GLEAM http://www.daz3d.com/gleam, and if so did you find it helpful?

My journey is a pretty straight road to fantasy portraits (I ADORE ShibaShake and MCKrauss - such great artists!!) and I'm wondering if these would be handy?

I hesitate simply because I tend to think learning the properties/art of lighting a better idea than using something pre-packaged. But maybe I'm making things too hard on myself?

TIA!

I just bought Gleam because it seems versatile and the instructions written for it were very informative which is unusual. Its on sale too.
    worth a chance.
Have not used it yet. Best of luck.

Thanks for replying joeinhose. Guess you and I are the only ones talking about this subject. Good luck to you as well. I'm gonna hold off buying for now.

I bought it and did a few test render in the last days.
I think it is an easy way to make good looking renders without having to much knowledge of lighting.

Thanks for the reply R25S! I appreciate your feedback! Still undecided on my end but should hurry up and make up my mind while it's still on sale :-)

Maybe this will help you to decide...

    both Pictures (made with DAZ Studio) rendered with 3Delight;
the first one without any additional light and the second with Gleam 03 light setting.

It looks good :) I like your character and pose too.

Let me point out an interesting section in one of my older art studio threads- I tested lights with characters placed at World Center (0/0/0) using the same character, and posted the results. You can see if you already have some products that come with great lights. If you go to my signature, I have a link on the first post to the light section from thread one. In all the art studio threads (1-4) we talk about lighting a LOT and show what products come with cool sets. Lantios and Dimension Theory lights are good too. There's nothing wrong with packaged lights, and think of them also as a starting point to add your own.

The lights from many products are wonderful- I love the Angkor Wat, Jason, Violet lights.

Here are a few examples of "packaged" lights with a few other lights added. They did not come with these specific gals.
GLEAM looks good and a nice product to putz around with.

Thanks for weighing Novica! I love your threads and do appreciate the direct link. Your threads are Large :-) OK...thanks to all of you I think I'll go ahead and purchase. Just didn't want to be a "cheater" and shirk my digital art learning responsibility, lol :-) But I do agree... packages can be a great starting point. I do it with poses :-)
