Probably a very basic question. Which Victoria

I am very new to Daz3d having just installed it this afternoon. I played about a little bit with Poser a few years ago to create some simple animations for Second Life.

I have run through the getting started tutorial and understand that. The basic package is very limited in content so it's a case of where to start. Looking through the downloadable content in the shop it seems I will probably have to get another character/avatar before I can download much content. On the female side of things it seems Victoria is one of the mode popular and supported. Usually seems to mention needs Victoria 4. When I look for a Victoria I can find versions 4.2, 5 and 6. Which should I get? If I get 6 can things designed for 4 still work on 5 and 6 or is there a compatibility issue. If this is the case will 4.2 work.

Sorry if the questions a bit basic. I am still trying to get a grips onto where to start.

To start with you have characters which come with DS 4.6 Did you download and install the Genesis Starter essentials and the Genesis 2 starter essentials. These will give you 3 figures to start experimenting with as the genesis 2 starter essentials comes in 2 parts, genesis 2 female and genesis 2 male. The original Genesis can be morphed into either male or female or even basic child.

Yes I seem to have got the Genesis starter figures you mention. With such a limited wardrobe I started to look into buying some of the items in the shop. It's everything I looked at said that I needed Victoria 4.

Victoria 4 is an older generation, and is a stand alone figure, she has been around for quite a while now, which is why there are so many clothes, hair and characters for her

WIth Genesis you can get the female figure to wear V4 clothes, and someone will pop in soon and tell you how. However there is quite a large collection of clothes for Genesis and Genesis 2, and it is growing all the time.

If on the left hand menu you click to show genesis within the clothes and accessories category you get this many items show up http://www.daz3d.com/clothing-accessories?compat_figures=28

And if you click to display Genesis 2 female you get this many http://www.daz3d.com/clothing-accessories?compat_figures=886

Genesis supports V5 and the rest of the generation 5 figure

Genesis 2 female supports V6 and the other generation 6 female characters.

Welcome to the forum! :) For more information on the various figures (and generations of figures), take a look at my thread DAZ 3D Human Figures: A History and also SickleYield's thread A DAZ Newbie's Guide to the Figures. Hope you find this useful, and feel free to ask if you have any questions!
