Using custom files in DAZ

Hi!

I just got the basic DAZ and before I went on a shopping spree I wanted to try some poses, locations and props made by other users. They are often RSR, CR2, PZ2 or OBJ files. I put them all in the my DAZLibrary files/ Runtime folder, and carefully place them in teh the subcatergories in runtime according to the files. like i put OBJ files in geometries, RZ2 files in teh pose folder etc.

However when I open DAZ 3D I can't find the items in the smart menu on the left. Only way I can make them work is drag them from the origin folder over to DAZ. So i know the files works, but I would like to have them in the start menu as it is way too much work drag and dropping all the items i need. Also the textures does not seem to work.

Can anyone please give me a walkthrough on how to do this, or some good tips. All help is greatly appreciated !

You probably need to re-import metadata for the stuff to show up

If these items don't have metadata which tells DS what they work with, they won't show up in Smart Content, only in the Content Library.

Is there any way I can either create metadata. or find it for the addons? and what exactly does metadata look like?

Smart Content is a neat tool, but sometimes it isn't all that smart, it breaks down at the most awkward times, and it very definitely does have limits. The thing to remember is that Smart Content is not a view of your content — it's a sorted and filtered view of a database of links to your content. If the content doesn't have entries in the database (this means most older items in the DAZ store, and pretty much everything from other stores, or freebies), then you'll never find it in Smart Content because it isn't there.

It's considered a good idea to get used to the Content Library tab. The Products and Categories sections are also dependent on the content database, but the "DAZ Studio Format" and "Poser Format" sections are true views of all the files making up every item of content you've installed. The only drawback with this is that the arrangement of files in their default installed locations is a bit spread out and not always obvious or easy to follow.
