Here is a quick render of a section of the Grand Canyon using Infinito in DAZ Studio and real elevation data (Geotiff):
Of course you can also create your own terrain data
Well the truth is the More you have loaded into DAZ Studio the slower it will go. A Large landscape is much better as a Background image that your foreground blends into. Much like the Easy Environment sets in the store.
There is also Microcosm available at RDNA. Basically you select various tiling planes and then inject mrophs that allow you to distort and shape the plane. This an old program for Poser but it will work in DAZ studio (including 4.6) and there are tons of free mats and morphs for it also available at RDNA. I probably should have selected a different tile and mat combination so the tiling wouldn't be as obvious, but here is a quick landscape made in DAZ Studio using Microcosm:

For a backdrop type program you could also consider MultiPlane Cyclorama: http://www.daz3d.com/multiplane-cyclorama
Besides the backdrops that come with it, there are a number of add-on backdrops available.

Rendering outside of Daz studio but using Daz content
Carrara 8,5pro is on sale at the moment http://www.daz3d.com/carrara-software/
it can be used to create environments and loads Daz content
otherwise Bryce if not doing animations, takes longer too but looks good http://www.daz3d.com/products/bryce/bryce-what-is-bryce
can send to Bryce via bridge in Daz studio
others use Vue http://www.daz3d.com/vue-11-frontier it goes on sale sometimes,
in studio itself you can use http://www.daz3d.com/infinito-1-0
I myself use Carrara
of course you can just buy various props under environments and landscapes in the store
You should also have a look at these:
- Vue http://www.e-onsoftware.com/
(It can be difficult to export characters from DAZ Studio into Vue however.)
- Terragen http://planetside.co.uk/
Consider putting ready made backgrounds in your scene.
Both pictures are done in Vue.
Thanks.
I'll look into these.
