I really don't think Poser is better than DS in this aspect.
They just interprete the textures differently.

It's all about optimizing the materials...
Lighting is pretty much even between the two. Ease of use is a subjective thing.
So what it comes down to is...are the materials optimized for DS or for Poser. Or neither. If they are set up for one program, work needs to be done to get them to look good in the other.
One of the other things that happens is that just because DS doesn't have an existing 'instant access' button to a certain feature, that feature doesn't exist...that's not true. DS has just about every feature (no network rendering...that's the only one I can come up with off the top of my head) of a 'production level' renderer...it's just that you've got to work your tail off to get them (or buy the plugins...). Poser has many more of those advanced features 'exposed' and instantly accessible...but it came at the price of a lot of hard work by some very talented folks writing the Python scripts and such that are actually now part of Poser...and most that work was done behind the scenes.
As to 'Poser only'...for the majority of the items...that just means there are no DS materials set up for it. Dynamic hair and clothing are a different story, as are the figures made specifically for the new Poser weight mapping system. But everything else...it's down to materials. And if they aren't pure procedurals that rely on Poser's node based system, then they are 'easily' transferable. (Translating some of the node based stuff requires serious work in DS's ShaderMixer to build equivalent networks.)
I use loads of Poser only content in DS. It will all LOAD in DS even the stuff that uses the POSER Shaders as materials, none of the shaders load but you can use DS shaders instead in those areas. Only Poser Dynamic items do not work in DS as noted above. As said more than once the USER must adjust the Texture settings once loaded in DS to get them to look good in DS. There is no one way is easy or fast to fix Poser items in DS. Each texture will be a bit different from the last one. Just take a little time, adjust a little bit. Do a test render, adjust a bit more until you get the best you can or the look you like. Tip: Do your adjusting with a Lighting set you will USE and you can just render when done. The drawback is that those settings might not look as good under different lights in DS the next time you use the item.
Although some (read a lot of it) of the Poser dynamic clothing can be made to 'work'...at least at a basic level, by using the Transfer Utility as if rigging a completely new item. It won't have all the morphs and posing features that come from being dynamic or rigged from the start, but you can add those, too if you'd like.
And there is even a little converter program that works with some dynamic hair to convert it to a polygon mesh.

In Poser, you would use the cloth room to animate and drape dynamic clothing but there is no substitute for that in Daz Studio and all DS dynamics are currently done via the Optitex plugin which puts a hefty price tag on creating your own dynamic clothing.
The only way to have even remotely similar function as Poser would be to export pre-draped versions as morphs for the object in Daz Studio. Of course, you'd still need Poser for that..,
I only meant as a Dynamic item. Not as a loadable item. Poser Dynamic items will not work with DS Dynamics was my only point.
True...but many get the impression that they won't work at all, as in not even load.
And in older versions of DS, rigging them was a bit more of a pain...especially when the CCT were a separate purchase.
Very good point, yes all now have the tools, if a item strikes their fancy they can have it.
I usually get everything set up in the finalized state (doing 99.99% stills) then export the clothing and posed character to Blender...run a cloth sim...then bring it all back to DS.
What would be nice, if a plugin is not ever going to be developed, would be a web-based interface so you could drop an obj in and it would spit out a dynamic item. I'd be willing to pay DS a few bucks a pop to do that...
