Creating a Texture Product

Hi, I do apologise if this is the wrong place to ask.

I am trying to create a Texture product for a product I am developing, and was wondering. Does the texture product need to be the exzact name as the main product or can it be a different name and still work?

any help is greatly apriciated. Thank you so much.!

Well I wouldn't recommend Lolita for xxxdevil

  • What I am asking is when a person downloads the texture package, if it is named the same name as the product. it should just go directly into the same directory right. only as extra textures, but if it is named a different name, then it would be in a different directory. correct?

Add-on texture sets should (IMO) go under the original product, either as additional files in the existing materials folder(s), or in new folders with the name of the add-on texture set. For example, many PC+ products (let's call one "Product A") come with a single texture set, with more in a separate product ("Product A Textures") that all install to the same materials folder, which is okay, since they are all related and probably follow a similar style. They, or another, might later come up with more textures on a different theme or style, but putting them all in one place would get confusing. Putting them in a new folder allows them to be easily distinguished from the rest by theme, or artist, if not just for the sake of keeping it all organized.

I think you should be asking your PA contacts at Daz what their requirements and recommendations are. User opinions will be all over the place, based on personal preference.
  • Good idea. will contact them. thank you all for your great help. Much appreciated!

Lots of names I wouldn't recommend lol ...

One tends to resort to Google searches to make sure nobody else has a certain name for skin, character, hair, clothing, etc. Unique names for products cause less confusion.

  • Just found this thread and I have a related question - is it allowed to create texture packs for existing products, or do you need the PA's authorization to do so?

As far as i know you don't need any permission. Just make sure any textures you create are done with a template and not using any parts of existing original textures

Thank you! No, that's clear, I don't want any of the original stuff in there anyway and basically start from scratch. But I can use the UV templates authors provide to have the correct measurements?

Yes, that's what templates are for ;-) One can also make templates in various 3D modelers or with various utilities. {paint outside the lines a few pixels for the buffer zones}.

  • mcjcasual has a script that generates a template for you, don't worry about the date, it still works
