the blue ball is at the closest point on the yellow rod from the white ball

that's how the fake stick-on wood sheets will be applied on the handrails and painting-frames

    function projectPointOnLine( a, b, p ){ //P' = A + {(AB • AP) / || AB ||²} AB AB = b.subtract( a ); AP = p.subtract( a ); lenab2 = AB.length(); lenab2 *= lenab2; t = AB.dot( AP ) / lenab2; AB.x *= t AB.y *= t AB.z *= t p3 = a.add( AB ) return( p3 );}

good news is i untangled the uv map issues for ramp/frame generator
mixed good-bad news is i spent time away from that project to improve Amy's wardrobe

    first acceptable results !
meaning we're closer to having the handrail/painting-frames generator script

meaning we're closer to having the staircase props and maybe staircase generator script

    then the castle !

but i'll try to make the release of the castle as soon as i figured stairs options

the 9 molding shapes that will come with the script

you'll be able to use custom shapes made with mcjLathe or use any obj file as long as the vertices form a closed curve

they are based on frames for Flat TVs found here http://www.flatscreenframing.com/?page_id=530

maybe i should add some that are really for paintings

Wow, I never knew they had frames for flat screen TVs. Most folks I know who have flat screen TVs never seem to have them flat on the wall, or at least not the ones I've seen.

Those are really nice frame designs though.

We have 4 flat screens and none of them are on the wall. All are sitting on a dresser or entertainment center

started turning the script into something usable by the non-me :)

That's how I prefer them. One friend had this jumbo flat screen hanging on the living room wall, and I was always afraid the damn thing was going to fall down and crash on the credenza underneath it.

They've since taken it down when they moved furniture around, so now it's sitting on the credenza instead.

Wanted to ask you... how did you manage to get the UV mapping to follow the frame around so perfectly??

it was the main problem to solve

remember earlier in the forum thread there was Amy holding a yellow stick and a ball was being projected on that wand

as the script builds the UV map, it carries along a stick like that , it projects the vertices of the tube onto the stick

this gives the V part of the UV coordinate -

-- the easier to understand way, though less true is that i un-fold the frame then use the positions of the vertices as the uv map

    -----

below you can see the uv map

and the script settings that generated the 16x9 frame

Very interesting. Always wanted a UV program that could map AROUND properly so fills would follow as expected.

the textures are really wrapped around the frame, i meani t's not projected through

and the UV map covers the whole length, so you could have a text that doesn't repeat printed on the frame

though in this image i tiled the texture 2 x 50

using bump map for detailed carvings

fig 1 rendered in Blender bump map

fig 2 rendered in Daz studio software render - chrome metal + displacement map

fig 3 the bump make ( you can grab it, though it has little misalignments )

maybe not (maybe so) related to this, recently i was often getting Chrome messages that it could not find web sites, or could not connect

so today i change the DNS server my internet service uses, it's like a phone book, you say www.daz3d.com, the server answers " the IP is 122.122.121.121"

i will use the google dns servers which are said to be very responsive

the google dns servers are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

for windows7 the recipe to change the dns server ( i changed it for IPv4 because IPV6 refused the dns servers i was giving it ) )

    is here http://www.opennicproject.org/configure-your-dns/how-to-change-dns-servers-in-windows-7/

    ========================

the frame/handrail generator script will have 3 "bar edge" moldings

my image composition skills at work **cough cough**

Hmmm, but if I change my DNS then would I have to reconfigure all my wireless devices as well??

it's linked to your PC only and its "adapter"

well you'd do this only if Chrome gives you trouble

in my case, when i navigate to a new web site

chrome often says "unable to connect ....." or unable to find this site

then i have to refresh the browser and it gets through

it's as if the DNS servers i was using by default dont respond fast enough
or Chrome just doesnt wait long enough for the answer

Hmm, well I'm on Windows 8 and use Firefox.

I did follow the link you provided and then the link on THAT page took me here:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/opennicwizard/

Apparently, if I'm reading this correctly, this is an automated way to do this... I think...

simpler to change the dns server using the windows settings -- or even simpler to not change anything !

the openNIC thing would add a program continuously running in the background , it looks more like a replacement for Windows's DNS services than an automated change-a-ma-thing

    hard turns

the ramp/frames/mouldings script will let you create 2 types of corners
    or 3

    1 hard - , a frame in this case is made of 4 non-welded tubes/sections
2 soft - vertices at the corners are shared by 2 tube segments

soft - the disadvantage is that some surfaces may appear gray in renders
the advantage is that using subDivision you can obtain ovals

hard - advantage is that you can smoothen the mouldings without changing the shape of the path
so a square table will remain square but the mouldings will look extra smooth

Ohhhh, the frames are looking great.

@Richard, you should try the following with FireFox. Go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Show Cookies... and scroll down until you see the DAZ3D folder. Then delete the "frontend" cookie in that list. That should help for a while. I usually have to do this about once or twice a year.

The new plan is to prioritize the release of a first beta version of the castle
( possible with the help of the handrails/frames builder script )

that castle will come with fixed the stairs as seen recently

    --

then later, publish the frames/handrails script

    then publish modular staircase props

and maybe another version of the castle which is easier to re-staicasify :)
    --

then we got to get back to physics and Amy's BMX stunts !
