Give up to find the answer by myself. How to apply preset shader to an object?

I once managed to apply preset shader to an object by dblClick the preset shader icon (while the sphere object is focused). The sphere was nicely painted as expect. But, holy crap, it's a kind of miracle or bugs of DAZ 4.6.2.118, I don't know. I've never succeeded to to that any again.

I now know how to manually PAINT an object by means of adjusting diffuse colour, etc. But really confused why preset shader can't be applier.

When applying a shader to an object, you MUST select the Object in the Scene pane AND the surface in the Surfaces pane.

Selecting the object, lets DS know which object you want the shader applied to. Selecting the Surface, lets DS know which surface to apply it to, as you may only want to apply it to part of an object. So, make sure that you select both object AND surface.

    EDIT:

Shaders do not usually appear in the OpenGL viewport, you have to render in 3Delight to see the effect.

Thanks Jimmy for your reply. But it's better to show you what I've done. I create a primitive sphere. Apply BlueMarble shader to it (by means of dblClick, and another time RightClick+Apply to). It looks promising since the sphere dims a bit.

But after rendering, it appears that nothing happen. The sphere looks exactly the same as the one without applying shader. What did I do wrong?

It looks like you are still NOT selecting the Surface of the Sphere in the Surfaces pane, if you don't, it wont work.

I did one as shown below, with both the object AND the surface selected.

    Glad you found it.

Any time you can't find one of the panes, go to Window > Panes (Tabs), and they are all there listed alphabetically. There are other layouts you can try as well, you'll soon find out what suits you.

I don't use the separate tabbed interface. I have Content Library, Scene, Surfaces and Smart Content on the left hand side (labels at the top, not the side), and on the right I have Parameters, Lights and Cameras. Fairly simple, but I find it easier to work with.

Thanks for another tip, Jimmy. Now I'm frustrated a bit. I can't find the way to remove applied shaders. I've found from my quick search that I have to create a new shader to reset the object's properties. Is that still the same in DAZ 4.6?

In your Shader Presets in the Content Library pane, there is a folder called 'DS Defaults'

You will find a shder in there called 'dsDefauklt.DUF', apply that for the default shader. If you look at the top of the Surfaces pane, you will see the name of the shader that is applied.
