I am trying to light a scene by candlelight. I read somewhere this could be done by placing transparent ball props over the flame and making them light emitters. How can I turn a prop into a light emitter?
The easiest way is to apply the UberLight shader to the surface of the ball. You can use the Fantom option to make it invisible in the render, but it will still emit light.
I personally prefer linear point lights for candles. They have the same controls for fall off as a mesh light but give a better output (IMHO) to a vert based meshed area light.

Got it. Thanks.
