Not sure if this counts as animation

Hi.

I am very new to this and I have not found any information in the official documentation or in the forums to answer this question. Perhaps what I want to do is not possible. At a minimum I need some help in how to approach it.

For simplicity's sake, what I want to do is have a character open or close a door as part of an animation sequence. How do I hinge the door and then what do I have to do so that I can swing the door open or closed? I don't need to have door knobs or locks or anything like that. Let's assume that the door will stay open or closed according to the character pushing it to that state.

Along the same line is how to animate a wheel turning or a propeller spinning. If there is a tutorial anywhere that would be a big help. I have found all kinds of information on character animation, but not objects other than bouncing a ball.

Thanks,

Tim

There are plenty of props which already have moving doors, but you can also simulate it by using a simple cuboid primitive, setting the pivot point close to one of the corners.

As for spinning wheels and propellers, much like any animation you can simply rotate an object and it will animate the rotation. I'd recommend doing this gradually as large increments can cause rotations to go in the opposite direction! Here's a quick example.

Gif animations get a bit screwed up on the forums. Click on the image to see it running properly.

    Thanks for your response HeraldOfFire

Do I have to set the pivot point in Hexagon before I bring the door into Daz, or is there a way to set it in Daz? I searched the user guide and the reference manual with no success.

    Thanks,

    Tim

You can also do it in Daz Studio using the joint editor. With Joint Editor active, move the green cursor to where you want the pivot to be and then rotate it on the Y axis to open and close the door. You can set limits in the Parameters tab to ensure the door stays within bounds and also rename the Y rotation parameter as something more memorable like "Open Door".

    Hello HaroldOfFire

Thank you so much! My doors are now rotating at the hinge end. I shall play with the settings for the limits. Will they rotate when touched / moved by a character's hand, or is there more that needs to be done?

    thanks again

You will have to DIAL the door open to match the figures hand pushing. It is not built in to do it automatic.

    Thanks Jaderail

Proximity triggers would be nice, but moving it with an actor's hand will be fine.
