Not quite sure what you mean by that.
I mean, I'm setting up the character to use, but also learning about iray, skin settings etc.
I thought it looked "dry", but wasn't sure that was a thing. It's been a real balance between too shiny and so on...and at a cetain point, seems start show at the shoulder/torso point.
This is where I've ended with the 3 related Silver characters using the process.
People have different tastes and different artistic goals. There is such a thing a skin being too dry, though for someone darker that'll manifest differently. Currently asking a different vendor about a freebie that once had out to see if it might help you.
Here's mine:
Zetra is rendered in 3Delight using Niara's skin on Victoria 5. I used the morph dials plus G1 Head Morph Resource Kits for the lips.
Didn't like the background, so I played around a little in Photoshop. I like this one better.
From shader I'm working on. The skin and the planet are procedurally generated.
This had been the original image, but wanted to tweak it a bit.
Sort of kicking myself for having so many lights, though... chug chug chug.
Boy did you challenge yourself! Dark skin and white clothes... so hard to get the exposure right. Drives me crazy with the camera.
Thank you. ;)
It's one reason I sometimes like to ignore tone mapping and do it in post with canvasses.
Another helpful approach when rendering darker skins is to make a more 'natural' tone mapping:
In Tone Mapping, turn Burn Highlights per Component off, set Burn Highlights to 1 and Crush blacks to 0.
It helps avoid some of the loss of detail (Crush blacks not good for, well, black). If you aren't careful you can get a washed out image. Just have to adjust lighting, maybe up saturation in post...
Actually, frankly, one reason I like to render darker skinned people is that it seems a bit of a challenge given the subtle assumptions that get engrained into settings and so on.
(The other reason is to simply do something non-typical)

I already added these to the list but these were previous Christmas freebies that are available again and may be of use to some of you. Inane Glory also noted that these have been updated from the prior release in case some of you already have these.
Darius 6 on G3M, using Slosh's product and the new Legacy UV G2M for G3M product, so it's all Darius. More informaton on what was used -- what there was -- in the gallery, linked above. and (theoretically) by clicking the image and/or the wee tiny text below it.
That's real impressive!
A strange mix of Marie head, Ninive body, a bunch of Zev0 aging morphs, Skin Builder + Skin Overlay -> Iray Smart Converter
Omri hair with Unshaven 2 shader.

I know this post is old and I seen the extensive list but can anyone recommend a model that closely resembles Lupita N'Yongo?
None are coming to mind off the top of my head but I'll try to keep an eye out.
The closest one I can think (texture only) of is Xhosa by Vyktohria at Renderosity. There's a Poser/Daz main part (VYK_Xhosa) with the morphs and original materials, and a Xhosa materials and shaders-only version for Iray, without the body morphs.
That said, the Xhosa main morph body and face doesn't closely resemble Lupita N'Yongo; you'd need to do a fair amount of dial-spinning for that. But the texture and tone is relatively close, I think.
Again on the principle of 'old content is still great,' here's a hair from 2009, and, with some tweaks, it looks really nice. http://www.daz3d.com/caleb-hair in the http://www.daz3d.com/fantasy-starter-bundle which is on sale right now.
Yeah, AprilYSH does some good stuff.
Trying out a new G3M character from Rendo (Ayo) that comes with fiberhair brows and facial stuble. I tweaked the skin as I didn't like the way the original skin looked in IRAY and I needed a darker skin for the project I am working on
Interesting to see the differences between promos and buyer renders (or in some odd and unfortunate cases, promos and vendor renders). While this product's promos look fine, there's a few that would have benefited from another pass with different settings.
He looks really good FSMC, it strikes me that the bump on his skin is a bit strong though.
Finally getting around to posting a smaller version of the book cover I tried to post a while back...This is actually for business cards I printed.
My usual character. :) Genesis 3 version uses Amaya texture, two Alicia afros (for density), and Eternal outfit (but still with some of the old V4 stuff).
Out-Freakin'-standing as usual! Love the post processing effect styled render!
Beautiful morph, I like her torso specifically - still curvy and womanly but doesn't look like she's going to break in half at the waist.
As she actually has one!
Thank you very much. :) I have to use a lot of morphs to get that body shape (which is why I haven't shared it, you'd have to own a lot of sets to be able to use it), but it's fun to make your character original and as close to how you imagine them to be. You can never go wrong buying morph sets if you take the time and try using them.
