Finding Content search function incredibly frustrating

Sorry I know I am a new user and many of you have been working with the program for over a decade so I am just speaking as a newbie in these comments so please bear with me.

There has been so much written about this subject of finding or more appropriately not being able to find content once you have purchased it I just dont know where to begin so I am just going to ask, why or how is it that there is a content search function for items that are obviously present but the search cannot find them?

We spend more time, sometimes hours, just trying to find and use a simple item in our content that just wont show up. I understand things like Smart Content where you need meta data to correctly match but how is it a simple file search cannot find a file NAME?

The pictures show the file present on the hard drive but in Daz it is completely invisible. What gives?

Your file search shows there are resource files - objects and textures - with bandana in the name but no library files. The content search will show only user files - Poser library files, or DAZ Studio .duf or .daz files or presets that are not in a special folder (Data or Runtime). So in this case the search appears to be correct.

about obj or FBX or bvh (which can be imported to ds), we can add the directory as Other import Formats.
I usually add poser geometries directory and my obj directory ,animationfiles directories as Other import formats.
then I can access and import(load) them from Content library and
DS can serch these files by file name option, as you used.

If you need to add directory you can add where your obj files are installed.
eg add ds default library directory for Other import Formats it may work as we expect.
    (your B4Bandana.obj should be serched)

on the other hand, DS can not serch these jpeg or image format files in content library, or Smart content.I think.
I use Renderlibrary to image viewer too. but there seems no good way to serch image from daz studio easy.
but it can be achieved from PC exproler serch which will be opened when we need to add or load image in daz studio.

I have found, through the times, that downloading and installing 1 - 3 items at a time, and then diligently categorizing them while they are fresh in your mind, helps tremendously. Before I exit D|S, I make sure that I have marked all content as seen so that there is nothing showing up with the blue label. Nothing beats well organized categories (according to your own logic and comfort) in your library to help you find your items.

I find my way so much better.

    30 odd content folders
    Animals
    Book, magazines etc
    Buildings
    Characters
    Clothing Gen 4
    Clothing Genesis
    etc
    etc

Thanks Richard, That made me look through the files again and much to my surprise although I had dragged and dropped the runtime file from Soto bandana into My Daz 3D Library somehow the cr2 files were not present. I reloaded the files and now Bandana shows up in the search for Daz. Thanks I never imagined the cr2 was missing.

Thanks kitakoredaz I guess my problem was that the cr2 was missing. I will also try your suggestion for my uncategorized content. As an aside I found I was able to just drag an obj straight into my daz scene and parent it to a model as well.

    One question Mari-Anne and Szark,

I started doing this filing "logically" but stopped when I came across some posts that said certain files needed to look at certain directories to know they were there and if you move them they wont function properly.

i.e. I my newbieness I thought logically the "Pose" folder must be for model poses so I started moving all the files in the pose folder over to a folder I created called "Poses". Then found out about the idea of material poses (I may be completely wrong about this but let me get this straight, you have a program that features poses to pose a model but you can also pose a material which has nothing to do with a model pose? As a software designer couldn't they think of any other name beside "pose" to emulate the same function for materials?) This seemed logically crazy.

So which files are safe to move and which should not be touched?

I also came across a post from an admin. that said something about Daz working on creating a better file system to find your files so I have been waiting to hear more about this before rearranging all my files.

I don't move any files around at all, well only if it is a freebie incorrectly packaged. Anything from the Daz3D storeo just gets installed to its relevant folder, Buildings in the Buildings folder etc...all via DIM now. This http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/11176/#160909 is what I mean by having separate content folders, all on a USB HDD btw.
