Music video created in DAZ Studio: "Win Your Love"

This is a music video that was created by Seven Oaks Creative Arts, which I have the pleasure of being a freelance assistant for. The animation was primarily done by one of their freelance animators and video/audio editors, Randy McDonald. I did much of the research and creative suggestions for content, some of the "scene" setup, and some ancillary animation.

The video is a combination of live-action footage and 3D animation. All of the 3D work was done in DAZ studio. Some of the live-action footage is public domain stock, from Pexels and other free-footage sites. Some footage was created using Google Earth Studio. The rest is footage of the singer/songwriter, Ted Jones.

The video has now gone public so I have permission to post a link to it here:

"Win Your Love"

Below I'm listing every DAZ content package I can that was used in the creation of the video, but there are a few caveats:

• It is impossible to recall or list every pose package that was used, or that we attempted to use. All the poses started with were discarded, or tweaked a lot and then used, and there were way too many tried to even begin trying to list them all. Sorry.

• The same issue goes for "environment" packages, using either skydomes (physical or virtual) or HDRIs. As with the poses, we tried so many different ones (with sometimes maddening results) that there's no way I can find to tell which ones were actually used.

If anyone sees anything in the video that I don't list below, please note it in this thread so we can acknowledge all the great content creators whose work has gone into this production.

One package I cannot list in order of appearance is a utility, without which the video never could have been done with the resources available to us:

  • I'm surprised this thread hasn't picked up any attention. I loved watching the video. As an ex-guitarist, I really enjoyed the guitarist's technique. And considering how hard it is to do animation in DS, that was some fantastic animation work!

It reminded me of back when I had a band. We didn't play this kind of music, though. And we weren't as good as this...

Let me be more specific: We weren't good. We played in a 50-band Battle-Of-The-Bands at the sports arena in San Diego in 1967. We came in at number 50.

Anyhoo, it was a kick to watch this cool video, and enjoy the music, and try to identify all the Daz Studio products in it. I want to see more of these things! Don't ask me to participate, though. My art is even worse than my music.

Hey, Kenkoy. Sorry I missed this before; I got involved in another similar project and plumb forgot to check back! I'm very glad that you enjoyed the piece, but I'm also abashed to have to confess, cap twisting in hands, that all of the "musicians playing" footage is stock video that has been processed with one or more types of "cartooning" or "painting" plugins or programs, then overlaid with different types of blending on other footage, much of which is 3D, such as the "landing on the island" scene where the guitarist hand is.

I discovered very early on in that project that my 3D animation skills and resources were far, far, FAR short of being able to pull off actual guitar playing, so the client and I got together and figure out that approach to "faking it" (which is a pun that only can be appreciated fully by a musician who has used a "fake book.")

I did try to include a disclaimer to that effect in the introductory post, saying, "The video is a combination of live-action footage and 3D animation." Should have punched that fact up more.

I started out my musical life as a drummer, but then graduated to playing guitar (rhythm only) and some keyboards because I wanted to write songs. I therefore had at least enough background on playing those instruments to know that any attempts on my part to make that happen with 3D animation was doooooooomed from the outset! I hope to have a second such animated music video completed in the next few months, and will certainly post here when it's done.

Thanks to everyone for the nice feedback. As for the time, yes, it took about three to four months to produce that, with lots of back and forth at milestone stages, and with lots ending up "on the cutting room floor," so to speak.

I'm currently doing another music video for that singer/songwriter.
