What do you call your hobby?

When asked by friends what I do the conversation always goes something like this:
- I make 3D renders.
- "Renders"....???

OR

- I make 3D renders.
- 3D... oh you sit with different colored goggles.

So what do YOU say when trying to explain what you do?

You make art, don't bother getting technical with people if you don't think they will understand it. Of course if you want to shock people (and maybe get them to never ask again) tell them you play with virtual dollies.

Consider the one that fits your creative endeavors best: Digital art, graphic design, animation, figure modeler, or 3d media development.

    I simply call it 3D Art :-)

And when they ask "What is 3D Art?" then I explain in simple words what I do. Setting up figures, creating materials and lights, using cameras and composition, just like these ones: LINK TO STUFF

My answer is almost the same as XoechZ. But I rather call it scene-building.
To show examples, I type my first name in Google Images or show my gallery at deviantART.
And when no Internet available, I show them sort of portfolio that fits in my jackets pocket. You can have them print at album printer companies.

I'm with the two above. To me it's 3D Art. Or in my case 3D sort of can almost be art, maybe.

Graphic and Web Design & Development, with an emphasis on both 2D and 3D artwork, though for me, the 3D artwork is the hobby.

    Expensive? :P
I refer to it as 3D or when I share I am working on something say something like "I am rendering".
Which to me is the equavalent of "drawing" or "painting".

I've tended to find if I say CG Art people seem to understand 3D Art seems to leave them puzzled.

Where do would you find the time with all the hours you spend here on the forums?

I don't talk about it much with friends yet, as I have only been dinking around trying to learn stuff... and I am nowhere near ready to call myself something like an "artist."

But to the one or two who know about it, like others here, I call it "3D Computer Art" or something along those lines.

I normally just say computer art because it includes fractals and the 2d applications. However, I had to have this chat with my ex husband about my spending this month....And I was at a loss for words. He knows what Daz3d is though so I didn't have go show him. He doesn't quiet get the whole "but it was on a really really good sale!" thing yet. I think I'll just tell people to go to Daz3d and look around. "Yeah, they are 3d dolls with outfits and everything...." But yeah, its kinda hard to explain to people who haven't seen the site. Maybe we should show them? "Yes look, you can have a castle and dragon and a knight and a fairy princess...." lol
