Is there a connection between render times and the closeness of the light source. and or the angle of the light source?

a better word than "connection" would be a "relationship"

That's much too vague for a definitive answer.

    So, possibly, maybe :-P

Subject being the same... if the light is closer, overexposure... is the render time shorter since detail will be lost in the glared areas....

Or is the render time longer since more light is being reflected...
I guess I can just do a trial with a simple cube

Please don't put half of your question in the subject line and half in the post. I have edited the first post to fix this.

There isn't any light bouncing around, if you are using 3Delight (and not using uberEnvironment with the indirect mode). There's no inherent connection, but if you have shadows on then the number of objects that are potentially in touched by the light would have an effect.
