Help Fitting M4 content to Genesis!

So, as the title says, I'm having a tiny bit of trouble getting Genesis and M4 stuff to fit happily. Now I've got the "Rapier" set of armor

http://www.daz3d.com/shop/coalition-rapier-armor/

and all but one part fit =perfectly,= as if they were made for Genesis!

....except the boots; No matter what setting I use, I get this.

Is there anything I can do, or is this one of those "You're screwed" problems. x.x

Shoes tend to be a problem as the zero position of the feet is very different between the fourth generation figures and Genesis. There isn't really a fix, other than exporting the zeroed shoes and tidying them up in a modelling application, but a smoothing modifier may help (Edit>Figure>Geoemtry>Apply Smoothing Modifier).

Okay. smmothing Modifier did nothing. How hard would the other step be? I _REALLY_ Want to use this set. It's kinda one of my favorites. And this is the only part (Aside from the shoulders needing a tweak I just noticed) that has any issues. x.x

I mean, there used to be an option in poser that basically meant "Don't change the shape, just leave it attached." Does daz have ANYTHING like that?

It's just annoying, cos the splash page for Genesis showed tons of M4 content, including some I've tried- and all of it mangles below the ankles. Which was curiously cut off in the splash page. So it feels like I was kinda lied to about this.

You could load two sets of shoes, hiding one leg of each, and then parent them to Genesis' shins and manually pose them.

Er, how's that? will they morph around with the genesis figure as they're supposed to? I mean scale and male/female foot morphs, mostly?

I know it sounds like a minor complaint but I do plan to use a lot of outfits, and having everyone barefoot is a pain XD

So I tried the 'parenting' trick and there's one tiny problem. I've got several items that are larger than 'sneaker' dimensions. NONE of them will fit to the character using that method.. help...?

You would need to adjust the scale and possible use DForms to adjust the shape, but it is an option.

    Dforms? What's a Dform? (remember, newb. >.<)</p>

DForms are the DS equivalent of Poser magnets - Create>New DForm. They haven't chnaged much, so have a look at their entry in the DS3 manual (use the PDF version, the HTML link is broken) http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/3/start

What works for me is to get M4 scaled down to the same size as the default genesis and get the feet and legs in about the same position. Then export the shoes (you may want use the deformers to adjust the back of the shins for boots.. just make the m4 invisible and then deform) as an obj... then try to use the transfer tool on those... then it should fit better without the deforming... you may need to make a morph for M5 because his feet are more detailed, they'll crumple again).

I was able to save a good deal of my M4 shoes in this way.

Ok, so this is a multi step process, but it seems to provide really good results.

    1. Load Genesis
    2. Load the M4 item you want to transfer
    3. Pose the M4 item until it lines up with the default Genesis. I have not done any scaling at this point, but it may be something to try if you want a more exact fit. I stink with deformers, so I haven't used any of those either. You may want to save a pose file out of the posed clothing as a utility pose to use with other conversions.
    4. Remove Genesis from the scene.
    5. Export the posed M4 item as an obj
    6. Remove the posed M4 item
    7. Import the obj, use the rigging tools to Convert Prop to Figure
    8. Load Genesis
    9. Use the Transfer utility to convert the item to Genesis. Do not fit the item to Genesis during this process, you will need to unhide the advanced options and uncheck the box.
    10. Save the item as a Support Asset >Figure/Prop Asset
    11. Remove the item you originally imported, and load the new item you saved. Voila. M4 items fitted to Genesis pretty accurately.

I will state I have done this footwear only at this point, YMMV.

    /edit
This method will not transfer any morphs. Potentially a loss. I'm sure there must be a way to add them back in at some point in the process. Perhaps someone could illuminate that point?
