What is the bottom graph in the timeline window for?

I attached an image below. What is the bottom graph in the timeline window for in the 4.12 beta?
I mean the one with the magnifying glass and the cross on the right.

 

I think I pressed every button there is, but I don't get it to do anything.

If you select a property in the top section (the Dopesheet) and you will see a line showing how it varies through time, and how it changes at key frames, in the graph area. It makes it easier to see what is happening.
