Can't seem to figure out how to save a multi piece prop....
Hey guys,
I'm having trouble trying to save a multi piece prop. I create the pieces in Zbrush then import them to Daz. The go z app doesn't work (something to do with the path but no worries there i just do them manually... a few more steps but no probs) As a result I export obj file from zbrush say the body, the hinge, and the door...then import them individually into a scene in DAZ but when i save the figure/prop asset under the save as pull down all that saves is the body (first item listed) but the attached door and hinge always get left out. can somebody please tell me the proper method step by step to save a multiple piece prop as a prop for Daz. I really enjoy creating things but can't seem to do the simplest thing of saving the asset...please...HELP!
Just for reference i've saved as an actor/prop/character but always with the same result....

Select All then EXPORT as a NEW Object. You will get some options, like weld and others and save defaults like Poser or DAZ. Once exported as a single mesh you can import the new object. Moveable objects are a different matter (doors that open). But a single prop is easy.
OR was, I've not tested the New Build of DS4.6 yet.
If you want to keep them as separate items then use "Save as > Support asset > Scene asset", this will save each item in the scene separately, so you will end up with a data folder entry for each item, a DUF file for each item and a DUF file that will load all of the items back in as you originally had them.
been trying to create multiple item props and have no trouble importing/exporting out of zbrush the pieces i make. I can morph things and create original objects but the problem i'm having in Daz is that once i've created a multi object piece (such as a car, bicycle, etc ) when i save the prop all that saves is the first item. I've tried parenting them, selecting all of them, then trying to save but all that saves is the first item. Can anyone help me with a step by step on how to save multiple objects within a prop. I've been enjoying daz and have all the basics down but now i want to create content and can't seem to get over this basic hurtle. I'm sure it's probably something simple i'm overlooking but i'm starting to wonder...Help please......
Did you try save as scene subset??? just an idea Trish
maybe it needs to be made into a figure with the parts as bones?
I know many "props" with parts are
otherwise it can only be saved as a scene not a support asset
uless exported and reimported as one object
Merged the new thread with the old to avoid going over old ground.
Did you try the Scene Asset option as suggested by Bejaymac ?
Are you wanting to keep the items separate, or merge them in to a single solid unit?
I'm wanting to keep the items together as one prop. For instance I'd like to be able to make...say a car body, hood, trunk lid, doors. Once i create each one and import them into Daz I'd like to be able to have all of them parented or otherwise paired to the car body. Then i'd like to be able to save the car as a complete prop. When i try saving though it only seems to save the car body (or whatever else i happen to be clicked on) but doesn't save everything else with it...even when parented. I can't be this dense on this but obviously i'm missing a simple step. Do i have to have bones or rigging for each item? Thanks all.....
I have not tried a multi part prop item with moving parts in DS4.6.2 yet. Something to look into as others jump in and explain it to you while I sleep and then try before coming back on-line again.
Thanks....let me know. I'm trying out different things but i keep getting the same result. Key item or first item saves but all other parented, rigged items don't save with prop.
Yes I tried saving using scene asset option per Bejaymac's suggestion but it saves the item as an entire scene rather than as a prop to be added to a scene. I can make single item props no problem and save them with no troubles, but trying to save one with multiple objects as part of one prop...not so much.
