Migrating Content (and Loading Times)

Hi everyone :D

I know this question has been asked many times

But I'm still not sure about the right procedure, and I really don't want to re-download and to re-install everything from the ground.
So, here are my questions.

Number 1

I have bought a new SSD for render stuff, and I'd like to put all of my installed content there.
Right now, I have part of it in the Connect library, part of it in the DIM library on my primary SSD, part of it on DIM on the hard disk, and part of it in my separate freebies folder.
In order to move them all to the new SSD, can I just cut and paste and tell Daz to look in the new directory, since I'm not touching the Manifest?

Number 2

I sometimes use another PC. If I don't want to re-download everything from the ground, how can I move my content there? What's the fastest way?

Number 3

I still haven't managed to install the 4.11 final version, maybe it's because I have the Public Build already installed.
What's the best process to pass on another version all of my content, layout etc.?
I heard about a script, but I'm not talking about the one to match Daz and DIM, is there one?

Number 4

Loading time and library navigation.
Are they affected by how many directorie Daz has to search the content in?
So, would it be better to just have everything installed in a single directory?

What else influences loading times? I'm talking about loading a product into the scene once you've clicked on it.

Thank you all in advance :D

  • 1 - yes, if I understood your method correctly - note that Connect is a separate setting from regular content, though it is possible to use the same folder for both.

2 - same as chnaging location - just copy the content folders across - then also copy the database across with DS closed (location is in Edit>Preferences, or Daz Studio>Prefrences for the mac, in the CMS Setings tab)

    3 - http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/save_mapped_paths/start

4 - in principle yes, when loading a file saved with a relative path DS will try appending the relative apth to each content directory in turn until it finds a match or runs out of directories to try so a large number of diectories might slow things down, especially for files in the later directories or simply not in the given location at all.

Thank you very much Richard, as always you're a saviour! :D

Then it's much easier than I thought. I've actually never done this, fearing to break something.

Now I get why I saw a speed improvement when I reinstalled everything from the ground with less directories some months ago!
