I'm an academic wanting to produce a set of different human models using the free Genesis tool in DAZ Studio. I then want to retriangulate and distribute these models to other academics for research purposes only. Is this allowed under the DAZ Studio licence/user agreement?

Distribution of the meshes is not allowed at all, they belong to DAZ 3D.

Renders made using these figures (Genesis, Genesis2 etc) can be published, sold or given away for free, but not the meshses they are produced from.

See the DAZ 3D EULA here : http://www.daz3d.com/eula

As Jimmy says, it isn't allowed under the EULA. However, it may be worth asking DAZ for permission directly (via a support ticket) with an explanation of what the project is and why you need to modify the mesh in this way.
