Creating New Surfaces?

HURRAY! My play is done. I have a little bit of free time before I begin my next recording project!

Instead of finishing up some clothing I've decided to tackle creating an anime styled head only morph. Now I know I can create alternate UV maps for something but is it possible to create alternative shader domains for a genesis figure?

Yes, it is. You can do this through the Polygon Group Editor in DS (unless you want to take it into a modeling app or uv editing app, which will usually let you assign new material groups to selected uvs). In PGE (Polygon Group Editor), you select the polygons that you want to apply a new material zone to, then right click on your selection and choose Create Material from Selection. That's pretty much all there is too it. You then need to save a copy of the figure with a new name so as not to over-write the original.

Ah! So it's not possible to save it as an alternate surfaces configuration that can be selected from the Surface tabs the way you can with UVs? You actually have to save it as a whole new figure?

Unless I have missed something, yes it has to be saved as a whole figure. The UVs listed in the dropdown don't contain any material information, so unfortunately they don't save the material configurations. Which is a disappointment, because I know that I can assign materials in UVMapper and save them with the figure (obj). I had always thought they were part of the uvs, but they are not.
