Removing zip-file installed content - a question
Tried a search, but don't see much on this topic. Is there a sticky or something?
I much, much prefer the manual zip-file install process, over the old bit-rock installer approach, but as no uninstaller gets created, the files need to be hunted down manually. In some cases, there is a file list on the readme.html, but often not, it seems.
I don't usually look inside zips past the runtime folder, or "environments, people, props," to see what specific folders are installing for a given product.
When it happens that I'm wanting to remove a zip-installed product, a character, for example, I can find most files, but there are some, morphs in particular, that are not obvious as to their location, and they still show up in shaping.
Any thoughts?

Unzip the unwanted content's folder to a new folder and check the contents. Then one knows exactly what was planted where.
Thank you.
Yes. Seems obvious now that you point it out.
The original zip files, in this case, are already deleted, but I'll remember your suggestion in future.
I cottoned onto this routine after a few "winners" from freeware sites ;-)
If the item is still available sometimes it's worth re-downloading to find the files.
In W7 there's also the search feature which can be very handy.
Thanks again, Patience55,
I have a heck of a time with W7 search; it rarely finds things... something about the indexing or whatever, so I don't often resort to it anymore.
One issue, in searching myself, is what/where file types end up, and under what name. Textures are a good example, often stored under a venders name, instead of the product name. Most of the time I can find them via Surfaces tab, diffuse color. But, there's also morphs, which seem sometimes to be found in Morphs, or in Data, with the same name-changing thing going on.
In Shaping tab, I haven't figured how to backtrack to the actual location yet, as one can from Figures cr2 or duf, etc.
Your suggestion is the sensible one, where possible.
I just ignore the indexing message ... search still happens. Just might take a nanosecond longer.
Search from the closest top folder to where the item has to be.
For eg. From the folder "My Library", make the search request ...
Or from Textures ....
Or from data ...
Might find too much, right-click on a possible match and ask for it to open folder location.
For any Morph in the Shaping or Parameters tab if you open the settings with the GEAR icon you can see the Morphs path like so...
EDIT,,, Noo... NM.
Thank you, Patience55 and Jaderail,
for the W7 and Studio tips. Ought to be able to get things cleared out straightaway, now.
