Ignore object lighting

Is there any way to actually get a light to illuminate only the objects I want? I've been trying to find anything that allows me to do that, as I require a precise illumination for an object without the added illumination for the other objects.

    Create your own spotlight and adjust the focal distance on it to the desired amount
