Question about multiple machines...

edited November 2013 in New Users

I really love Daz3D Studio and I am very impressed with the amount of functions it has and that it is so very user friendly. Ironically, for most general purposes, it has replaced Zbrush on my computer, though I still use ZBrush for a lot of things that I don't know if DS can do or haven't yet learned how. I certainly prefer DS's limitation to the range of motion on models to that Poser Pro 2012 as well, also the easiness of configuring lighting makes it more ideal for renders containing multiple items on the view field. Anyway, that aside, my question:

I have purchased a few hundred dollars worth of premium content and plugins here, many of these things have serial numbers and registration processes (i.e. LAMH)... I utilize DS a lot now and it has become a fun little hobby of mine and a tool used to entertain my 6 year-old while spending father-son time. However, I am not fully satisfied with my old computer rig now and have been reading up on new systems. I have set my heart on the Ascendtech Core i7 3930 [HexCore 12M] computer with Asus Rampage Iv Formula X79 LGA2011 Sata MoBo, 64GB DDR3 8x8GB 1600MHZ PC3-12800 Memory, and Nvidia Geforce Gtx 680 2GB Hdmi Dvi & Dp amongst other goodies. The rig will set me back just shy of $2k. If the computer remains on my current home network I.P. address, will there be any problem transferring the programs/content to an in house computer, or will I have to buy the items again?

I plan to make my current PC a render slave to my new main when I get it. So there will be two [possibly more in the near future] computers running with identical serials. I know that people [especially here in the U.S.] are really nuts with all the anti-piracy jazz and I don't want to wind up in any trouble over something that I feel should be completely legit. However, like in the case of Microsoft Products, I know a lot of software developers throw away customer satisfaction and return sales for initial bottom line sales and expect every machine in a household to each own an official [purchased] copy of the software. Before I switch it out I'd like to know if I will need to buy everything again or will it work fine on my other devices [without any potential conflicts or issues]. I tend to rotate through technology pretty often so i'd really like to know.

No you won't need to buy everything again. The EULA allows a same user to install to several machines within the house.

Ah okay, thanks. I assumed such since most devs that sell items digitally have a Username/Password system where devs that market hard-copied items do not and rely on purchased serial keys. However, I noticed that some DL content had it's own serials which concerned me.

Thanks for the lightning fast response.

I can say that the way I have my systems setup, I have two machines and two runtimes. I can build a scene on one machine, and save it and open it on the other machine and render there, which then frees one machine for setting up more scenes ;)

I also sometimes setup scenes on my laptop (when I'm off in my country cottage, then send the .duf tile via the net to my machines at home and can render there (using remote desktop to load the scene and render.

So, using multiple machines is quite good. My other 3D software don't allow that kind of freedom as they are license-locked to one machine.

Thanks Totte! Just ordered this, should be here in about a week... I am hoping that it is a bit overkill and that I don't push it to it's boundaries to fast...

I am something similiar, but with a i74770K and 20GB RAM.
At the moment I also have an older generation Quadro workstation but it's too old to see a real difference.
I am drooling at your 2x 2TB of SSD by the way Oo
    These things cost a fortune!
Why not invest in a workstation for that money and use a smaller SSD?
Not wanting to be nosy, just seems a shame to invest that kind of money for storage.

Cool... I haven't upgraded anything [except OS and gfx card] since 2008, and my PC was a bargain PC then. The whole setup is costing me $3900 but I financed it, putting $350 down and paying $150 a month for 22 months. There is no interest on the financing and the computer was 20% off as is. Looked up various other similar models from the same manufacturer and they mostly run around $4999.95. I figure I spend $150 a month on my cell phone, I will get far more pleasure out of an awesome PC rig.

I am also committing to putting it to work to raise extra revenue. I give myself 90 days to begin raising that $139.47 a month with things done on that computer. This way I justify it is paying for itself! LOL!
