This VS That
With a processor speed of 3ghz, is 4GBs of RAM sufficient to create still pictures efficiently with DAZ 4.5? Or do I still need 6GBs of RAM?
(I'm looking at computers. I need a new one to run DAZ properly. I need to render still pictures.)

That all depends on how figure dependent your scenes are. I have 8GB ram (machine was initially built for high-end gaming, which is less dependent on ram) and I'm finding myself hitting my memory limits lately.
I would say 8GB, an i5 and an nvidia GT550 is a realistic minimum.
To save money go for 8GB with an AMD A10.
The AMD A series include a full mid-range graphics card on the chip. No need to buy a separate one.
AMD Radeon™ HD 6550D Graphics in my case, but I added a better card anyway.
Will these specs run DAZ 4.5 adequately enough to efficiently render still pictures?
]Windows 7

4GB DDR2 High Performance Memory,
Large 750GB SATA Hard Drive
Not really most the 4Gb Ram will be used by Win7 and just loading DS4+ not much will be left to render with. CD/DVD has nothing to do with DAZ Studio.
THANK YOU for replying!
What would you suggest? How much RAM and processor speed do you suggest? (I only render still pictures.)
OR...what if used a (intel-3 processor) 4 GB RAM with an older operating system (like Vista or XP), and used the computer solely for DAZ 4.5 picture stills. Would that work? Or is it a waste of time? (I'm trying to make a quick fix until I can afford what I need.)
Actually the 4 GB is not the huge problem people make it out to be. Windows 7 uses only about 1 GB on my system because I took the time to remove or stop a lot of crap that was on it. You won't be able do a crowd scene or have a complex environment with lots of props but you can still make some pretty pictures. Your real problem is the processor, its ancient and only a dual core.
What processor speed do you suggest?
I can devote a computer just to DAZ. What would I require to make nice picture stills with full backgrounds?
What if I installed Vista or XP on the system, instead of running on something newer?
Oh, and how would an intel-3 with 8 GB of RAM work?
I was thinking about the other thread by the Poster. Yes it will run DS4+ I think but as noted the Scene will need to stay small. That can be over came with Layering multi Renders together in a 2D art program.
EDIT the 8Gb better if you can handle the Viewport being slow, if the GPU can open DS that is.
Thank you,
What would you suggest to permit a person to make most any picture still they want?
Processor - Ram
(If I had the funds, I wouldn't be asking, of course.)
How much does the operating system - XP. Vista, W-7- make a difference when using DAZ 4.5 on older computers?
Say... 3.2 GHZ processor and 4 GB RAM
Unless you have a 64 bit XP then your better off with Win7 where most are 64bit.
LOL! This was my old PC. And cost only $1600 two almost 3 years ago. I saved a long time to get it myself.
Win7 Home
i7 3mhz quad core.
8Gb DDR 3 of Ram
nVidia GPU with 1 Gb ram
It handled Most things I tossed at it, Not all but most. I'll not post the new one I'm still setting up. Which I spent a large sum on when my pension stocks did well last year.
Agree, most modern programs are converting to 64bit only as time moves on.
Oh,
I'm in the middle of a DAZ crisis. My junker (XP - 1.80 GHZ - 1.93 RAM) finally failed to construct and render picture stills. (Yes, it actually used to...barely.)
My (Vista) laptop (which is only marginally better) won't work anymore, either.
With limited funds, I need to put together something that will get me through (I do pictures and stills) till spring or summer, when I can upgrade.
I can just afford to purchase a ( Windows 7 Refurbisher Dell Optiplex 745 Desktop (3.4GHz Pentium D Dual Core Processor, 4GB DDR2 High Performance Memory, Large 750GB SATA Hard Drive), but if it doesn't let me make and render the picture stills I need for my projects, I'm up a creek .
If I bought the computer and replace the operating system with an older one, would it do the job?
I thought the computer might work, earlier, because it is so much better than what i had. But now I don't know. Sounds like W-7, 3.4 GHZ, 4GB RAM might not do it, from what I've been hearing.
I thought possible...if I used a smaller O.S. than 7, it might work. (or maybe this system would do as is.)
I need to find out before I purchase, or I'm finished till summer.
I don't know what your budget is, but that's a pretty old machine. An i3 or better processor, more RAM if you can afford it.
Most off the shelf computer now come with and i3 or i5, 8 GB of RAM, and ati or nvidia graphics. You can look to spend about $500 for that type of system
That's more of a summer possibility.
Right now, it looks like i'll have to settle for 3.4 GHZ with 4 GB RAM (windows 7).
I could replace windows 7 with an older version, if that would improve the system. I just need it to render picture stills for me. Don't need to use it for anything else. Only DAZ.
But I'm trying to decide. Like I said, once I make a purchase, I'm cleaned out till summer.
I suggest you hold off till a user with a matching PC comes in and gives you their view.
Thanks everyone for the help!
Sounds like a prospect for spring or summer. I will prepare for the upgrade.
I've been searching, and it appears I can only afford a 3.4 GHZ processor with 4GB RAM until then.
That is twice my junker had before it stopped handling DAZ 4.5 altogether.
But...if I spring for it (3.4 GHZ - 4GB RAM - 700 mem. HD) , and the new system doesn't render picture stills for me, I'm out of luck till summer.
I don't know if purchasing it and replacing windows 7 with an older version would help. Or if that doesn't matter.
But I need to produce stills for my creative projects, so I require something that will get me by for 6 months.
Views from others that have experience with similar (low-end) systems?
That's probably a good idea.
Thanks, everyone, for the help. More advice welcome.
What is more important when running daz 4.5?
a faster processor?
or a more RAM?
example:
What is the better choicer?
2.30 Ghz processor with 6GB RAM? (Windows 7)
or: 3.4 Ghz processor with 4 GB Ram? (Windows 7)
What would you buy?
(I would guess the faster processor. But...?).
The better processor imo
agree..
I also go along with the faster cpu - IF there's room to add more memory and the system is capable of running a 64-bit OS. Current trends indicate that 4 GB is going to be on the small side for any complex scenes. For example, the new HD creature morphs for G2 can push studio over 4 GB with just one applied to one figure and nothing else in the scene.
How important is it to operate off 64 bit with DAZ?
will 32 do the job?
AND....will 64-bit 6 GB system (3.0 Processor) run okay?
or does 64-bit require more computer to run DAZ?
Assuming you mean DAZ Studio, the 32 bit version will run but it very quickly runs out of memory as scene complexity increases. 6MB with the 64 bit version will give you more room, though it wouldn't hurt to have more memory available.
Merged the OS thread with the Processor/RAM thread since they are related.
Agreed. In my opinion you need at least 8GB of RAM to make everything run smoothly with big scenes.
How will a system with 6 GB RAM, AMD E-1500 processor with windows 8 handle DAZ 4.5?
