My sky domes are pitch black (SOLVED)
Bought The Lost World yesterday and changed the interface settings under preferences as recommended by the producer.
Since then all (not only the ones in The Lost World) my skydomes are pitch black. The light itself is still there but the dome is black. I have returned the interface settings to factory settings but that doesn't do the trick.
Anyone has an idea what to do?
(And NO, apart from this problem I have not been able to make The Lost World work properly...)

I did not change any settings there are a lot of lights listed ........check to see if this looks like yours...maybe that will help...Trish
Hi reserv888,
Sorry you've had this problem, but for people to help I think it would be beneficial if you answer a couple of quick questions.
Since I don't have the Lost World set, what interface changes are recommended?
What version of Daz Studio are you using?
Does the skydome still look black when you render? Sometimes things look wrong in the preview but render beautifully.
Thanks in advance,
Barry.
over in the commons forum ....the lost world is listed and the artist has been answering questions......
Good point.
I took the liberty of dragging the thread link over: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/31041/
If you have turned on Per Pixel Shading on in Preferences > Interface panel then all my Sky Domes turn black also but render properly.
Thank you all for efforts and ideas. A special thx to Szark who was spot on with his problemsolving.
Great help.
When it comes The Lost World: I have read his instructions but it still cripples Daz into impossible sluggishnes (if there is such a word). Note: it makes Daz Studio crawl, not the computer. I will still try to make it work since its a stunning piece of work.
My pleasure and as for the sluggishness that all depends on your system. I have a 32bit Vista system with 2 GB of Ram and I can't render much in DS4.5 + hence why I still use DS3A until I can get a new 64 bit, 32 GB Ram system in June.
Hello, let me know if I can help. Where do you get such slowdown? On loading or rendering?
@Szark
I haven't even come close to render things yet. And I doubt there's a system issue since neither RAM nor CPU are used to more than 50%.
@Alessandro_AM
Thank you for noticing my problems.
I have tried loading the whole set. It takes for ever and Daz Studio stop to respond. In the end I have to close down Daz before I've even gotten a chance to view your beautiful scenery.
I have also tried loading the set piece by piece. Your recommended settings in the preference/interface did improve the loading time a lot but it is still impossible to use in any practical way. There is problems with the water. (In the whole set load, it doesn't show at all). This could be due to some error on my behalf though. Haven't tested all my options yet.
I have a 3,8 Ghz 4 core processor and 8 GB RAM.
Please check out that you don't have an outdated LAMH Player version (latest is 1.06.6) or LAMH 1.0 (beta 1.07.03 needed).
If so, LW will most likely behave the way you are describing.
@Alessandro_AM
I didn't have LAMH at all. Now I have installed it. (Didn't check the version but I just downloaded it from Daz).
I clicked the Lost World-icon under Environment. In the pic you can see how the scene looks like after about 5 minutes of loading time.
There are no menues as you can see. After a few minutes more the menues appear, but as soon as I click anything it takes some more minutes before I can do anything again and nothing seems to have changed once the process is finished. (Neither the RAM nor the CPU are heavily used in the meantime).
The beaches and the water seems to lack texture. I have both double clicked and tried to merge the water mats, but that doesn't work.
p.s. Come to think of it, I did - this time - not use your recommended interface settings if that has anything to do with it. I used factory settings.
Something is not working correctly, loading LW should take at most 30 seconds; I suppose in your case it never ends loading? Also, once LW has loaded in DS, you should see no vegetation since the default script will initially hide it.
Would you be so kind to email me your DS log file, so maybe I can take a look at what's going on? My email is info_at_alessandromastronardi.com (replace _at_ with @)
I have a theroy why the sky domes turn black when Per Pixel Shading is ON, the normals are facing outward and we look at them from the inside opposite to the direction of the normals.
