Can I do this with DAZ 3D? What products do I need?

Hello everybody,

for a 2d-game I'm developing, I'd like to render some animations of walking humans from a sort of isometric perspective.
For example/ as a starting point, I'd like to render a man wearing a suit walking.
As far as I have come to understand DAZ3D's distribution model, I'll need to purchase animate2, right?
But what else do I need?
Do I need to buy a character?
Do I need to purchase the clothing seperately?
What about the walking animation?
Will the animation work with the clothing?
Is it possible to alter the appearance of the character (e. g. make him appear more slim) easily?

It would be nice if you could give me some advice. . :)

Daz Studio should be able to do all that. You may not need Animate2. DS come with a basic version of Animate. A walk cycle is a pretty common animation. If the program doesn't have a basic walk cycle, you can probably find one for free. DS also comes with Genesis starter. You may need to buy an expansion pack to change the figures appearance. You will also have to get the suit to wear. There are also a lot of free morphs for the figure ad free clothing. Do a search or ask around. What you are looking to do can be done free or cheaply.

Hmm... so you're saying that could be done with the Genesis figure and maybe free animations?

I'd like to be able to calculate a price, but I'm really quite lost in this large online store. :/

What I don't understand though, as I'm quite new to this:
    1) Is it possible to use any animation with any (humanoid) figure or does each figure need its specific animations which only works for this one figure?
    2) Related: Will changing the figure's appearance interfere with proper animation?
    3) Do I need clothing that fits a specific figure? When I change the appearance of the figure, will the clothing change with it? Will the clothing "follow" the animation?

The reason I ask all this is that I remember trying a demo version of some other program years ago. Everytime I tried to put clothes on my figure, the animation didn't take them with it properly, i. e. the (naked) legs and hips were partially sticking out of the trousers when the figure walked. This might have been due to my inexperience or maybe limitations of this demo version. But of course, I'd like to make sure how to avoid this before I buy something.

It would be nice if you could help me in this regard.

I'll also happily read through any helpful links you might provide...!

Yes it can be done with Genesis.
The problem you mentioned concerning the clothing not following during and animation could have been caused by many things. If you are using clothes designed for that figure you should have little or know problem in that area. Keep in mind that no software is perfect and you may need to do some adjustments. If you use clothing designed for the figure the problems will be few.
You can use clothing designed for other figures, depending on the figure. You will need to buy add-ons to do that.
The animations also can be from different figures but may need to be tweaked.
I think your best bet is to download the software and get to know it. It is hard to figure out a price until you figure out exactly what you can do. Try the free software and browse the freepository. Once you get to know the limits of the software and your abilities you can better judge what you will need.
